While in the market, i will show and explain the principal kinds of fish, meat and vegetables you can find in season and introduce you to some snacks available trough most of portuguese markets, shops and cafes that will make your delights and provide you alternatives in eating during the rest of your stay.
After visiting the market, i will invite you to my kitchen where you will have a hands on experience preparing a genuine portuguese three course meal with a traditional entrée a main course and a dessert, both of which we will have for lunch with some local wine.

Designer and food lover, cooking for friends and family since the 1980's. While traveling with my wife i got an out of the box perspective on portuguese food and started researching recipes, techniques and ingredients; trying to understand what identifies it amongst the various national foods that comprise the mediterranean eating culture. I like to visually document and research, my approach lies on relating portuguese food with other european cuisines to understand what makes our food unique.

We had a wonderful time with Miguel. We have done quite a few cooking experiences/lessons in other countries but this was quite unique. It was much more than an experience in Portuguese cooking. We met Miguel at the ferry station in Lisbon and travelled with him to Almada on ferry, strolled on the streets of Almada to visit the Market where Miguel got some fresh produce which we used for cooking later. We also tasted some local delicacies in the Market. From there he took us home where we had a great time cooking and eating. All throughout he kept us engaged with his interesting stories. We thoroughly enjoyed the delightful conversations we had with him. Would highly recommend him.

Think this is a great opportunity to know about Portugal plus beyond just an experience but rather meeting a local friend who knows deeply about Portugal, its culture, the place (Almada) you will go, street art, and of course Portuguese culinary. He made me feel like meeting someone I knew for a long time for how much welcomed and comfortable he treated me and taught me very interesting insights of the cooking. But really more than this I find this experience as a very personal experience that you can get to know someone who is very genuine and warm-hearted and who is full of interesting perspectives and experiences. He also helped me buying souvenirs and showed me around the town. I very much enjoyed it. Also he has an excellent level of communication and English. I really recommend it to everyone. I would definitely do it again if I ever visit Lisbon with friends and family. Last but not least, the house has a great touch of art and very beautiful.

We had a great experience thanks to Miguel! He's very easygoing and conversational, and it felt like we'd been invited to a friend's house. Miguel will also personalize the menu depending on the season as well as your group size and cooking interest, which is very thoughtful. Definitely recommend!

Miguel is very talented at creating thoughtful yet simple Portuguese dishes you could cook at home.
The experience was welcoming and the conversation was engaging.
The experience is flexible, so be sure to convey what you want to eat or learn before you arrive. Miguel will adjust his menu to fit.
One tip, make sure you tell Miguel if there is a dish you wish to master or a process you want to do yourself as he won’t push you to cook unless you ask.
