What you'll do
First, we will settle into the plant and crystal filled sanctuary that is Artemisia. Find some stillness and respite in the natural shapes that surround.
Then we will begin the course.
In this class you will begin by choosing a stone you want to work with, using our own intuitive aesthetic. Listen to yourself, and choose the stone that calls out.
We will then learn a technique called knotless netting to weave around our stones. Using waxed linen and a tapestry needle you will create a net around your chosen stone.
As with most weaving, knotless netting is a lot of repetition. You will have time to practice and get comfortable with the technique as well as a chance to design your piece as you go. Become familiar with your own style of netting, admire the shape and size of others.
We will talk about some of the ways knotless netting has been used traditionally and through learning this skill, spend an evening connected to this lineage of human endeavor.
Once the stone is covered in our waxed linen, we will use a whip stitch to complete the net.
This class includes one stone of your choice, a needle and your choice of color for waxed linen.
Other things to note
Please allow yourself 10/15 minutes to find street parking and settle in. Please also be aware we have a live dove in the shop, that can be put in her cage.

I am the owner of a sweet little shop called Artemisia Collage with Nature, which was established in 2004. I was raised by a naturalist and have spent my life connecting people with the grace and mystery of the natural world.
My specialty is fostering peoples creativity and providing an inspiring space and exquisite materials to explore. Artemisia has been creating terrariums and teaching folks to make them for 15 years.
Rosey is an experienced and skilled weaver and will be the instructor of the class.
Rosey is a member of the Columbia Basin Basketry Guild and has studied with over 20 teachers. She herself has been a teacher for over 7 years and is currently most engaged by weaving with plants that grow within a 30 mile radius of her home.
She builds technique through demonstration, illustration & written description.

Where you'll be
Artemisia is a lovely retail shop filled with plants, stones, perfumes, and terrariums. Most important is it feels good, like a place that has a special secret. You will have many options in the neighborhood for award winning restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, ice cream, chocolate and drinks within walking distance. Southeast 28th is also know as Restaurant Row.
