Private dinner in Cappadocia

Uçhisar Belediyesi, TurkeyPart of the Airbnb Cooking collection

Cooking experience hosted by Nesen

3 hours
Turkish
Up to 6 people
Hosted in English, German, Spanish, French

What you'll do

I will welcome you at my house with a view to the pigeon valley, which is located in the heart of Uchisar in Cappadocia. You will have the unique opportunity to spend 3 hours in a house from a local family and you will get a glimpse of how to prepare some of the local dishes of the Turkish Cusine such as "the imam fainted", "Turkish rice with noodles" lentil soup or yoghurt soup, all the ingredients are organic. The dinner will be accompanied by a delicious salad. First, we will decide which soup we want to cook. After booking this experience, you should let me please know, if you wish to cook the Imam fainted dish with meat or only with vegetable. Before you come, I will pick up the organic peppermint, parsley, tomatoe and cucumber from the garden of my aunt. If the weather allows us, we will have our organic turkish dinner on my terrace. Enjoy your dinner :) After dinner you will be served with a delicious Turkish coffee and Turkish delight. And if the Universe allows me I will try to read out of your coffee cup your fortune like in the time of the Ottoman Empire women did in the serail ;) I would be happy to adapt instruction language to your needs, you may choose between English, German and French. If this is not suitable, we might as well cook in Spanish. I would maybe need my dictionary on my left hand though ;)
Other things to note
For this experience, you have to be hungry and willing to cut the vegetables, to fry the eggplant and at the end to eat the delicious dinner either on the terrace or in the kitchen and if you are lucky I might read out of your coffee cup your fortune :) This is actually not part of the experience ..

I am a devoted host and an enthusiastic cook (my real job is at the University) which I would like to share with my guests who come to visit Cappadocia. I would like to invite you to an unique experience into my kitchen, which has a view to the Pigeon Valley. We will cook the dish Imam fainted away, lentil or yoghurt soup, Turkish rice with noodles and a salad. We will cook together and enjoy our delicious dinner together either on my terrace or in my cosy kitchen. After dinner we will enjoy our Turkish coffee, which may follow a session of reading out of the cup (fortune telling) :) The last one depends very much on my mood and it is not part of the cooking workshop :). It would be a pleasure for me to adapt my language skills to yours, you may choose between German, English and French and a broken Spanish which is absolutely enough ;)

We will spend most of our time in the kitchen and on the terrace if the weather allows it. If the weather doesn`t allow us to sit outside on the terrace, then we will enjoy our dinner in my kitchen which is very cosy.

Nesen was a great host and has an amazing location with the view overlooking the other caves in Uchisar. It was cold so we had dinner in her kitchen. But I imagine if it was nice in the summer it would have been delightful to enjoy the meal on her terrace. Nesen is a yoga teacher and has great philosophies and perspectives of life. She holds great conversations and is extremely warm and welcoming. In addition ! Her menu was healthy and Super delicious! She also Deliberately chose something easy to replicate when you so decide to cook it in your own home in the future. All in all a very delightful experience in warm cave home with much positive vibes. Leaving you refreshed and motivated to make changes in your life. P.S. the coffee she served is amazing! So make sure you try it.

Evening experience with Nesen was beautiful and rich in all aspects. Firstly, the food - she was very inclusive in the preparation of the ingredient, and was sincere in letting us learn the process of making the dishes. Gave much guidance, advices, and the food was served so amazingly. Secondly, the space - her apartment was homely and warm, and gave out a lot of very very positive vibes. I can only hope for the same warmth in a space like her’s at my own apartment! Lastly, Nesen. Nesen is a sincere and empowering individual. She is a strong and passionate soul that speaks with a weight of her beliefs and perspective. The conversations we shared were very insightful, and we can only be ever thankful for the experience with her. Be prepared for a spread; for the body, mind, and soul :)

This was a fantastic experience. Nesen is so incredibly welcoming, and she taught us how to make a delicious Turkish dish that I'm confident I can now make at home. The food was great, and the conversation was even better. It was a great night and I totally recommend it.

Such a wonderful experience, you’re located on the hillsides over looking Pigeon Valley in Uçhisar, very romantic and mystical setting <3 Only an 8 minute ride fro Goreme center. Nesen was an incredible host who accommodated my itinerary & we spoke of cultural relativism, philosophy, spirituality and many other topics that I myself am vastly interested in. All to say, the food was impeccably prepared with aid of her clear instructions and she really does tailor the experience for your personality, definitely recommend!!!

Nesen is an amazing host and she is very professional in teaching me to cook my first Turkish dish. With so much energy and patience, she guided me through the steps and I was happy for the food ended up was really delicious. We shared the meal with her daughter, sharing stories with Turkish coffee and delights. She made me learn not only the cooking skills but also many new aspects of Turkey such as the cultures, politics and living. I would recommend this experience to those who are visiting Cappadocia.

Aside from the food, food preparation, the view is awesome and just the feeling of being there, talking, sharing stories, was awesome. Highly recommended!
