What you'll do

Our evening begins at a specialty beer shop that focuses on traditional Bavarian beers, most of which you can not find outside of Germany. The owner Ludger prides himself that his is the best stocked beer shop in Berlin, with more than 500 to choose from. We will enjoy a selection of beers that exemplify the wide variety of styles and flavors found in Germany. While we are enjoying our beer, I will explain the differences in brewing techniques and the history behind the world's oldest drink. We'll then walk through the charming neighborhood of Sprengelkiez on our way to one of Berlin's first craft breweries. There we'll enjoy some delicious German food and beer in the beer garden, before heading off to try the best döner kebab in the city. Brought here by Turkish immigrants more than 40 years ago, the döner is now Germany's favorite street food. To help us wash down our kebabs, we'll head to an award-winning brew pub for our final stop and tasting. Master brewer Eric is constantly changing what's on tap, but you can be sure this small batch and high quality brew is some of the best you'll find in the city. We will be sampling all 6 beers they have on tap and learning how the craft beer revolution has reinvigorated Berlin's beer scene. After the tasting I will happily share some of my favorite spots in the city and you can keep on enjoying beers late into the night :)

Hi, I'm Julian, a Berlin based guide, food lover, and historian. I'm originally from Toronto, but I have always been drawn to Berlin, the birthplace of my grandmother. In 2008 I came to study German history and immerse myself in the culture, immediately falling in love with the city's gritty charm. I moved here permanently in 2012 and have been leading tours through Berlin ever since. I am also a certified guide with the Berlin Guides Association (BBS)

Where you'll be

Our stops will include a specialty beer shop, a beer garden and brewery, a family run Turkish restaurant, and a nano brewpub. We will be exploring the neighborhood of Wedding, which was forever shaped by the existence of the Berlin Wall. More recently, it has experienced a revitalization and has seen the opening many great bars, restaurants, and art spaces.

We had such a great time with Julian! He presented a variety of different beers to us and used them to point out how the brewing process has changed over time. He’s a really nice and friendly person. This experience is highly recommended!

Julian is a great guide! He knows a lot about beer and he could tell about it in great detail! The food was great too, some delicious local snacks that pair well with the drinks. This tour goes beyond beer and food though! Julian told us lots of interesting stuff about Berlin's history and the current beer/ food culture. While drinking, eating and listening, we visited some place that we certainly impossible to find if it wasn't for him. I would recommend Julian for sure, it is worth every cent you spend on this tour! And last but not least, you even get one more beer for take away at the end of the tour.

Julian was super friendly and it was great to see a part of Berlin I typically wouldn’t have gone to. Was great to meet others during the experience and highly recommend it.

If you like craft beer and/or hidden gem foods, this is the experience for you!! Julian is super educated about beer in general and especially the local beer scene in Berlin, and he’s passionate about sharing a true neighborhood experience with people who want to know what it’s like to actually live in Berlin (not just to visit!). He basically takes you to his favorite few spots in his own neighborhood which he is pretty much and expert on, he seems to have great relationships with the shop/restaurant owners, and he is just so happy to share it all with others - that’s so evident! Julian was also super chill about the fact that we were like 15 minutes late (because traveling is hard) AND that we had to run back to one of our stops and grab a bag that we had left behind. As a group we were kind of behind the clock the entire night but Julian was incredibly relaxed about it and he didn’t make us feel like it was a big deal or that it was our fault at all (even though it probably was lol), which was really cool of him. We made some great connections with the others in our group as well and we all stayed out to have another beer with Julian after the experience technically ended. New friends, amazing food, great beer, feeling comfortable in an unfamiliar city... honestly what more could you ask for?! Really highly recommend this experience to both groups OR individual travelers (we had both in our group and it was a blast!).

Don't leave Berlin without this experience!! This experience was by far the best night we had in Berlin. Julian is the best host/guide one could ask for -- he is so personable, very kind, and extremely knowledgeable. We wish we could have done more tours with Julian but our schedule didn't allow. Also, this experience is GREAT value! You can't really find a deal like this! We tried another food and beer experience because we had such a good time with Julian but you can't even compare--his was the best. Everything is high quality and you wouldn't be able to find these places unless you're a local who is aware of and appreciates the craft scene.

I was in Berlin for one day and took the opportunity to do this experience. It was magical. Julian is an expert in German culture, beer, and the neighborhoods we visited. He did a great job putting our group of people at ease, so that we all got to know each other and bond. I highly recommend Julian and this experience.
