What you'll do

Tour this magical neighborhood, home to the Summer of Love

On this easy 1.5 mile walking tour you will learn about the beginnings of this neighborhood, how it evolved in the early 20th century, and how it became the home to the hippies and the Summer of Love. A discussion of San Francisco's unique Victorian architecture and the painted ladies.

You will be introduced to the hippies, where they came from, hippie values and what it was like to be in the Haight during this time. You will hear some great stories and meet some interesting characters.

All of this will be accompanied by historical photos and a "highly curated" soundtrack to give you the flavor of the neighborhood and the times.

This tour was more than we expected. We got a comprehensive historical perspective of the Haight, through photos, excellent research, and a "carefully curated musical selection". Yes, as we walked through the Haight, we heard the music of the time period Chip was talking about. It really set the mood. We, now, have a much better idea of how this interesting and historical neighborhood contributed to and mirrored American history. Our minds were blown, and without even taking acid. Chip is a treasure, and this tour is highly recommended. (Really, the research, people!)

I really enjoyed this experience with Chip, and recommend it thoroughly. Chip knows so much about the area and has researched the background detail in depth, not to mention that he has lived in the area for a long time. He knows his stuff! He is so easy to get along with and the afternoon had plenty of laughs. I feel like I went not just on a physical journey but also into time itself, learning about the history of the area from the early 1800s to the present day. Super informative. Thank you Chip.

Chip had obviously done an extensive amount of research on the early history of the Haight as well as the areas’ more famous, 1960’s claim to fame. He did a wonderful job of bringing it all to life during our walking tour!
