What you'll do

I will meet our curious travelers at MONRIAD. They will meet me, Abbes and Aicha (our chef) and they will be greeted with a tasty and aromatic Moroccan mint tea.
Coming from a berber family, she guided me into the deep of the traditional moroccan kitchen. She explained me everything, all her secrets and with enthusiasm she passed on my the love for Moroccan cuisine.
After that together with Aicha they will start to prepare the bread, following the moroccan tradition. Once the preparation is finished they will bring with Abbes the bread to the public oven of the old city district. In the meantime that the bread is cook, they will go round the hidden corners with Abbes. They will discover the places where the craftsmen decorate the stucco by hand, where they works iron and where they carefully prepare and stitch the traditional moroccan slippers. Traditions handed from generation to generation.
At the end of the tour they will pick up the bread and back to the riad, on the roof top terrace they will have a moroccan food break with their homemade bread, olives, moroccan olive oil, harissa, khlea, mint tea.

I am Manuela and more than 10 years ago I felt in love for Morocco.
I opened my own riad and i get in touch with many local people, Aicha our chef and Abes an official tour guide
Aicha expert moroccan chef show me all the secrets to prepare the moroccan bread
Abbes explained me everything about the medina, the souk, the traditions and lifestyle. He allowed me to see more, with different eyes, behind the touristic surface, in the deep of this wonderful culture linked to simplicity where everything handmade.
Here where artisans have big value and are still the basis of culture.

Where you'll be

They will be welcome in the riad, the traditional moroccan home.
They will go in a local bakery, public oven where still the moroccan people living in the medina brings bread, biscuits, tanjia to cook.
After they will visit the artisans' souks, out from the tourist track and where they can photograph, touch with hand and see with their own eyes the meticulous and hard works behind the merchandise sold in stores in the medina.

Consigliatissimo!

What a wonderful tour of the Medina of Marrakech! We had already done a Medina tour and wandered around ourselves, so before this tour we wondered if we really should have even booked it, but we went along anyway. What a surprise! Our guide showed us another side of the Medina that perhaps isn’t commonly seen. We went deep into the back alleyways and met the artisans themselves in their workshops. This is an entirely different side to the Medina. Our guide spoke brilliant English and he was a real character. We felt he personally knew many people in the shops and laneways. The elderly men were clearly delighted to see him, the young men and boys looked at him with what appeared to me to be deep respect. We mixed our own bread before heading out and on our return the bread had been cooked in a public oven, delivered and we dined with our host over an egg and beef meal. This is a unique and special way to spend 3 hours in Marrakech. We felt it was a very real experience and that it was worth every cent. Thank you Maunela!

What a great time with Manuela, Aicha and Abbes! We started by making bread from scratch in the Riad before bringing it to the communal oven to cook while walking around in the medina to visit the artisans part. It was such a great way to discover the Medina and I would never have found it by myself! I felt very immersed into moroccan craft culture and so impressed by their technique and how quickly they were working. I highly recommend this experience!
