What you'll do

Meet at Cape Town's oldest building: at the the Castle of Good Hope's yellow gate posts. After a quick scene setting, starting with South Africa's First People, we’ll walk to sites of power, protest and beauty. This includes City Hall, slave quarter, Parliament, commercial centres and anti-apartheid strongholds. You’ll experience the city's first grid, quirky building features, hidden gems, public art and Apartheid's legacy. We’ll pop into some buildings, where tourists don't usually go. By the end you'll have a good sense of Cape Town's centre, creative buzz, development and diversity.
Other things to note
Wear shoes (and clothes) suitable for walking. Be prepared for strong sun (occasional rain and chilliness). Phone/camera in a zip-able bag. Wheel chairs and kids - fine, just let me know in advance.

I curate arts, heritage and design tours open to the public. These give me insights, delights and ideas to share on my Airbnb experiences. I love researching Cape Town's incredible history, beauty and creativity, so gave up being an arts and education fundraiser, to be a qualified Cape Town guide and start my own business here, Culture Connect SA. I did my BA Hons in Art History and post grad in the UK and held senior positions in London art institutions. Cape Town has been my home since 2010.

Where you'll be

Enjoy Cape Town through its creativity, commerce and challenges: Bo-Kaap's brightly coloured houses and mosques; tall buildings on what was once the sea; micro-enterprises to multi-nationals; areas of Apartheid's forced removals; monumental sculpture, pubic spaces and architectural statements from 17th century to today.

Kate is a wonderful host, we had a great walk, where Kate show me art and architecture, as well as, talked me about the history of CT. She shared her knowledge about the city and give me tips to enjoy the city. We visited an art gallery that was amazing. Finally she recommended me where to have lunch and it was very good food and place. I enjoyed a lot the walk with Kate. I fully recommend this experience.

I was interested to learn about the history and background of the buildings and places of Cape Town. Kate was a great host ! She knows a lot about architecture, arts, and about the city itself. She took me to interesting places I would never have found by myself. I would definitely recommend a tour of the city with her to anyone willing to get to know more deeply this city and its complex history.

Perfect way to discover Cape Town from a different perspective. I highly recommend this tour, which turned out to be a private, custom-made tour. Great discovering spots, which we would otherwise not have discovered. Cape Town has so much to offer.

We had a great walk with Kate, who is very knowledgeable about art and architecture in particular. She shared a lot of interesting information about the city and we got to see different (and some wonderful) places and architecture, Art Deco interiors as well as visit the first officially recognized mosque in South Africa. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Kate and would recommend this walk especially to anyone with an interest in art and design.

Kate took us to interesting parts of the city and explained the historical significance of the buildings we passed. She showed us many places and galleries where we will go back on our own. We got to see sites we would not have noticed otherwise. Kate is flexible and adapts to the wishes of her audience. As the desire for morning coffee was expressed she introduced us to a coffee place with excellent coffee which was also an experience on its own. We received many good recommendations and suggestions for the rest of our stay. We very much enjoyed the guided tour by a knowledgeable and friendly guide.

Kate is an amazing guide with lots of knowledge about the past and present of Cpt. She took us to places around the city which were of the beaten track and made Cpt even nicer to me.
