What you'll do

On arrival you will be guided into my private museum room in the house where there is a victorian wedding gown on display amongst other textile related antiquities for our meet n greet.
Next we will take you down to the costume department and work room where the hand crank machines will be set up for a class.
The activity will be a simple sewing project made from re-purposed and vintage style fabrics. You get to choose your own fabric for your bag. Depending on your skill level, you will be able to choose your project as a group.
Each person will choose a sewing machine to use. They were all named by my after school class attendees..eg: Justin Weaver, Perfect Patricia and Tailor Swift.
We will learn all the parts of the sewing machine, some old school trivia and fun ways to remember things with lots of giggles in between while looking out over the valley. We may have some cows visit us!
Going through step by step, I will show each process so we all get to finish at the same time.
The activity runs for about 2 hrs plus the textile antiquity tour time ( approx 15-30 mins)
At the end, tea and coffee will be served with some Gluten Free chocolate brownies either in the workroom or back up in the museum room, depending on the weather.
Everyone gets to take home their completed bag.
Other things to note
Don't worry if you have never sewn before or had a terrible experience previously. The way I share my knowledge will bring joy and happiness to your soul, while you hand crank your way to a finished sewn project that you will be very proud of!

An experienced costumier with a masters in Design, who has worked in stage theatre, stadium events, costume hire, bespoke, film and commercial work. I have travelled extensively collecting period costume pieces, reference books and textiles for my already extensive private collection. Between costume jobs, I run "Learn to Sew" workshops with my vintage hand crank sewing machines. This makes learning to sew a lot more fun as its slower, safer and more sustainable. Its a great way for me to teach the art of sewing, share my knowledge and have some fun all at the same time. And you get to take home a finished project.
