I am the founder of the Mama Foundation for the Arts and co-writer of the 1983 musical Mama, I Want to Sing! Music is, and always has been, my life. Growing up surrounded by the gospel, jazz, and rhythm of Harlem, it became my greatest joy to share the invigorating sounds of our history. I've been lucky enough to receive recognition throughout my career. A few highlights include: NAACP, Image, Stella, Emmy, and Humanitarian awards, as well as Glamour Magazine, New York Times, and TIME Magazine "Best-of" lists.

If you are a music fan especially gospel and jazz, make it a top priority to attend any concert or event or show produced by Vy Higgensen/Mama Foundation, their standards are very high, they know all the history and how to present talent to best advantage.
