Learn aerial moves with a circus star

Brooklyn, United States

Experience hosted by Sarah

2 hours
Includes drinks, equipment
Up to 1 people
Hosted in English

What you'll do

*Classes are currently offered only as a private lesson. If you want to bring a close friend or family member, please message me and I will change the settings, allowing for more than one guest. Please note the pricing will stay the same for each student. I am vaccinated and the places we go follow CDC and NYS health advisories.*

We will meet at a local coffee house to get fueled up to take off into the air. I'll tell you about my experiences growing up in a traditional American circus and the current aerial circus community thriving in New York City.
Next we will head to a local circus school where after a warm up we will try our skills on the aerial silks fabric.

Expect to feel challenged while moving your body in new ways and accomplished at acquiring some new skill sets to share be it with your family or on social media!

I hope we leave as friends with a greater understanding for what it takes to be a circus artist training daily. Open minds have an easier time but don't worry, I am experienced at helping you through the moments of uncertainty.

Breathe deep, be brave and carry kindness above all.

Other things to note:
Bring a camera, video camera, or phone, snacks, and workout clothing. No zippers on clothing or jewelry allowed. There will be two waivers to sign. The lesson is for beginners, but I can teach advanced, too.

I grew up in an American circus. I hold a BFA in dance, am certified in yoga, and I’ve taught circus and dance for over 20 years. I’ve lived and worked in China, France, and Italy, and have worked with a famous Canadian theatrical company and other well-known circus companies. I have experience working in recognized musical productions, and I’ve even danced on the outside of a 285-foot building.

Sarah was an expert host. She was an excellent teacher and really catered to my specific learning style and needs. She was personal, and easy to get along with. I am excited to keep in touch with her in the future and invest in future classes with her. If you’ve never tried aerial before, THIS is the way to learn. Her studio was super cool, everyone was friendly. She was patient and kind! I enjoyed hanging out. Literally hanging. Book this experience if you want a little exercise and a sense of fulfillment while in Brooklyn/NYC!

This was so much fun! The restaurant at the beginning was nice because the group got some background information on Sarah and what to expect with the silks. When we arrived at the space, we got right into the fun stuff. Sarah was a great teacher and made everything easy to understand. I wouldn’t hesitate to take another class with her!

It was so great! I‘m doing Pole Dance, Aerial Hoop and Hammock. My friend is an aerial virgin. We had a great time with Sarah and we‘ve learned so much and it was sooooo much fun too! Awesome what you can do in two hours with two silks! It was a great place in a lovely neighborhood! Sarah is a great person - we spent a couple of amazing hours with her and the Aerial Silks! We hope we will meet us again :-) Thank you!

Sarah was great. She really has a great understanding and passion of what she’s doing. We had a great warmup exercises before the lesson as well as cool down. Definitely recommended.

Sarah is a lovely instructor whose teaching was patient and clear. She taught not only how-to instruction, but also explained the why's behind different movements. I found that informative and it helped me better understand what we were doing. My group had varying levels of experience with physical fitness, but we were all able to execute what Sarah taught us to the best of our ability; in other words, this experience is most definitely accessible to beginners. You get what you put in it, and Sarah was very encouraging. My friends and I had so much fun. Learning how to climb up and hang upside-down from the silks was challenging and ridiculously enjoyable. Definitely recommend trying.
