What you'll do

Tsarskoe Selo has been a cultural centre and health resort for over 300 years. Every year the royal family was coming here from April to November. For such a small town, it developed rapidly. Before moving anything to St.Petersburg, it was tested here first. In Soviet times it was a popular health resort. To this day, Tsarskoe Selo preserves its royal charm and the pace of a small town.

What will we be doing?
 Exploring different parks
 Viewing all of the unique buildings including Catherine’s palace, Cameron's Gallery, Hermitage Pavilion, Chinese village and many others
 Taking a sneak peek at the traditional spa treatments that were appreciated in the 18th century and that remains widely popular today. (available May – mid-October)
 Finding 200 years old trees
 Playing traditional 19th-century games
 No overwhelming historical information with dates and names, but talking about food, rituals, stories and life that was happening here during the tsars' reign and Soviet times
 Outside of the royal park, discovering local market and Russian traditional specialties (pickled vegetables and herbs, honey, tvorog, spices, bread)

We will spend nearly 1h 45 mins in the parks and 45 mins at the market.
After the official part of the tour has finished we usually go to taste the best borsch (traditional soup). This is a one-dish cafe and you get to decide how much to pay.
Other things to note
Taxi to the starting point can be arranged by request (usually cheaper than through the hotel reception). Approx price from St.Petersburg city centre to Tsarskoe Selo is 10-15 euros and will take 45 minutes.
Children under 10 can attend the tour for free

Meet your host, Tatiana

I am an outdoorsy person who has lived in this area for over 25 years. Several generations of my family have lived in St.Petersburg but like most travellers I have spent some of my life abroad.

I am an official licensed guide. In addition to that, I have trained and worked at Catherine's Palace as a freelance tour guide. Formal training aside my real passion is to collect stories and share them on the tour in combination with must-see sites, local trails and food tasting.

My tour is available in English. Russian by birth I am married to an Englishman. We live in Pushkin and work in St.Petersburg. To broaden our horizons every other week during the low season we pick a new place or theatre performance and become the tourists in our own city. Curiosity is the key to my life and profession!

Where you'll be

Pushkin (Tsarskoye Selo) is situated 25 km from St.Petersburg. Tourists often come here to visit Catherine's palace and see the Amber room. We will pay respect to this tradition and of course spend some time talking about the exterior of the palace, but we will explore the park in more detail and take the local pathways.
