What you'll do

This is an introduction to Beekeeping, topics will include the history of bee keeping, Bee behaviour, the life of bees, what equipment is needed and how to behave around bees and practical exercises in the field. This introduction to beekeeping will include an hour of presentation followed by 2 hours of practical working with the bees where the participants have opportunity to open a hive, look at frames, handle frames and observe the various phases of bee development and see the queen ! .
Activities are weather and time of year dependent.
Honey collection/harvest occurs (between Jan/ March) during this time guests can also participate in honey harvest, spinning or just observe . Harvest can be hot and sweaty work but very enjoyable. We have 2 children's bee suits (5-8 years) and 4 adult suits. If participants assist with the harvest, they can take a jar of honey they have harvested home with them.
Other things to note
