What you'll do

I will get you acclimated to the area through maps, and give information on the area and on proper kayaking methods if you are a beginner. I'll be providing a two person Intex challenger kayak and help you get into the water to begin exploring the canals. I'd also be happy to take some photos as you enter the water. This is not a guided expedition - you will have 2 hours out on the water to explore on your own after I acclimate you to the area. There will be a bridge you can choose to cross from the private small lake area to a wider variety of canals, but you can also explore the canal on our side without crossing the bridge to simplify the experience. This is a different type of experience than kayaking out on the open lake.
Other things to note
Life jackets are available so you don't need to be a good swimmer. You will only get your feet wet to get into and out of the kayaks. We will be using inflatable kayaks for ease of carrying.

I have been kayaking for many years and fell in love with the canals of Lake Tahoe Keys. I've learned a lot about the history and current state of the lake, its development, and the community. You are able to put kayaks into the water directly from my backyard and explore the gorgeous canals populated by new and beautiful architecture. These are areas you cannot explore without a guide who lives here. The canals are uniquely beautiful and feed into the open lake, if you desire to go that way. It is a special place - beautiful and unique - one to share with others.

Where you'll be

For this experience, guests will park at my house, and will explore the Tahoe Keys canals starting from my backyard, kayaking out to a small private lake, through a canal or two, and back. Note the weather for your experience date - it may be windy or chilly but you will likely still be able to go out so prepare accordingly!

Amanda was nice and welcoming and took pictures of my friend and I while we were canoeing :) It was a pretty hands-off experience for the most part, though, as we canoed separately.

Amanda is a delightful host! She truly loves the Lake and all that it offers, inspiring kayakers with her stories of living on the edge of national parks. Amanda is incredibly patient with new boaters and is cheerful throughout. The wine before we took off, plus some bluegrass music, was a wonderful start. Highly recommend her!
