What you'll do

You will meet your guides at Ted Sperling Park, the launch site for the famous Lido Mangrove Tunnels. After a short explanation of the equipment and the paddle, we will launch and practice our skills in a beautiful, shallow bay. Karla and Aaron will be on hand to ensure that you feel comfortable. Their goal is safety and fun. Depending on weather conditions, we may paddle to the channel, which is lined with beautiful mansions. Although the houses are fun to look at, our real goal is to find manatees and dolphins. If we do come across them, we will keep our distance and watch them play and frolic. Occasionally, manatees will be curious and will swim up to us. It is such a special experience. Next up, we will head to the mangrove tunnels. We may take a short break at a private beach to stretch our legs before we head into the maze of mangrove tunnels. Karla and Aaron will help you navigate the tunnels, pointing out interesting information about the ecosystem and the animals in it. After paddling though the tunnels and to the hidden lagoon, we will head back to the launch. Your hosts will text photos of your adventure for you to share with friends and family.
Other things to note
Once you create your booking, we will message you to confirm details for your group. We can also provide kayaks. If the time doesn't work for you, check with us at info@surfitusa.com

Aloha! We are Aaron and Karla, husband and wife team and hosts of this amazing experience. Over ten years ago, we moved from Hawaii to Sarasota and realized what an amazing place it is. We love exploring the waterways—learning about the ecosystem and sharing our passion with others. Aaron has over forty years of on the water experience through paddleboarding, surfing and lifeguarding. He is the head instructor in the USA for Association of Surfing Instructors (ASI) and holds the highest level certification for that organization. Karla is a marine biologist for NOAA and holds ASI and WPA certifications. Together they have taught 1000's of people to paddleboard and are patient and kind in their approach. Whether you are an experienced paddler or a first-timer, they will make sure you are comfortable and safe on the water.

Where you'll be

Our adventure begins at Ted Sperling Park, the launch site for the famous Lido Mangrove Tunnels. We will meet here and Aaron and Karla will explain the equipment and the plan for the paddle. This park has parking, restrooms, a drinking fountain and outside showers. Aaron and Karla are one of the Sarasota County certified tour operators that can launch in this park.

I think we caught them on a bad day. We were first told they didn't have our reservations and they made an excuse about Airbnb reservations not syncing. Then they told us they might not have our paddle boards. It started about a half hour late and there was a 14 to 1 ratio which seemed too big. Other groups didn't have that. I would only worry about this review if they continue to get similar feedback as they said they were going through growing pains.

We booked through Airbnb and even though this is called "Paddle Board...", the description also said kayaks were available. My naive self didn't realize we had to specify ahead of time. We didn't realize how the park is set up and that Karla and Aaron needed to bring the equipment to the park. My husband was not too happy to not have a kayak because of his back and because we have a younger child who cannot paddle board by himself. With all this said, all 5 of our family used a paddle board, my daughter was nervous about it as it was her 1st time, but ended up sitting and was really OK with it. It was a little hard to maneuver the paddle board with my youngest on as well, but we all managed and had a really good time. I definitely built up my muscles! :) Aaron was helpful making sure we were comfortable and helping when needed. Overall, it was a great experience and we would do it again (But make sure that we had kayaks for those that wanted one.)

We chose to paddle board rather than kayak. My 12 yo and her friend said the tour was the highlight of their trip...and we did a lot! The owner/tour guide was fantastic. So much fun

Tour was great! Aaron read our group well (we have kids, ages 9 and 11) and he made sure the paddle boarding tour was doable and didn’t push the kids to exhaustion. The end of our tour was just as happy as the beginning! We got lucky and saw a manatee, birds, snowy egret, crabs and a water snake. Highly recommend!

We had a great time. They checked in the morning of the excursion and easily accommodated our needs for a mixture of paddleboards and kayaks. We even got to see dolphins and manatees!
