What you'll do

We'll start the night in a traditional bar in the heart of Rio's bohemian Lapa neighborhood. Here we'll get things going with ice-cold beers and traditional bar food (you don't go bar-hopping on an empty stomach!). Next up we'll make our way through the bustling streets to visit an ancient hole-in-the-wall bar to taste a selection of cachaças (Brazil's national spirit).

Now that you're warmed up, we'll make our way up into the North Zone - a region rarely visited by tourists but known to food-savvy 'Cariocas' (Rio's locals) because of its high concentration of 'botecos' (traditional bars). We'll explore this area on foot, visiting 3 or 4 backstreet botecos, eating and drinking as we go. At each stop there'll be drinks - caipirinha cocktails, craft beers, cachaças and fruit-shot 'batidas' - as well as lots more tapas-style bar food. There'll be gritty locals' bars and some fancier places too - every step of the way you'll be immersed in authentic Carioca culture, eating and drinking like a local.

Towards the end of the experience we'll return to the liveliest part of Lapa (packed with bars and samba clubs). Here you'll enjoy a final drink and we'll help you decide on the perfect follow-up activity, whether it be a bar, a samba club or just a taxi back to your accommodation.
Other things to note

Where you'll be

We'll start at an old bar that is one of my favorite 'galeto' (spit-roast chicken) places in Rio. Our second venue is an ancient hole-in-the-wall cachaça bar, walls lined with dusty old bottles and decades of history. Once we're up into the North Zone we'll visit a trio of foodie bars within walking distance of each other, each famous for a different dish. Our final venue is a traditional beer and caipirinha joint back in the heart of Lapa.

After taking their morning tour, almost immediately I signed up for this night tour. They really have an exceptional tour from local knowledge, the food, the drinks, running it efficiently. They’ve thought of everything. I knew it would be an amazing experience and... IT WAS! When you don’t know anything about the areas, the language, nothing, it was really nice having people who are so easy to get along with show you around. It really does feel like having a friend take you to their local haunts. If you’re wondering, Rio is very laid back attire but on the Saturday night in January (Carnaval is around the corner and people were definitely dressing to prepare 😜) I went people were more dressed up.

The most amazing part about this foodtour was that didn't feel you were on a guided tour - Tom was like a local friend. He took us to these amazing places where we would never have gone by ourself. We tasted alcohol and food that we had no idea what was - it was so cool. We would highly recommend this tour and are very glad that we got to experience it the first night we were in Rio. It gave us a good insight to how they live, eat and drink i Brazil.

Highly recommend to foodies who enjoy socialising around food and want to get “off the beaten track” when it comes to eateries.
