What you'll do

You'll hike on the iconic Table Mountain, following a fun and exhilarating route that you won't find by following official trail markings.

We'll meet in Camps Bay, usually just before sunrise. After doing an introduction and safety briefing, we'll set off on our hike which starts with a fifteen minute climb - steep, but not too strenuous. After this follows a leisurely stroll along a contour path with beautiful views of Camps Bay, Lion's Head and the Atlantic coastline for about twenty minutes.

Next we'll leave the trail, ascending a ridge all the way to the summit, where you'll be forced to use your hands as well as your feet to surmount some rock steps in some places. At times you'll find yourself in spectacular and even exposed positions, where thrills are guaranteed!

After this we will find ourselves on the summit plateau of the southern reaches of Table Mountain, at around 700m above sea level. We will visit the ruins of an old aerial cableway and the famous "diving board" rock formation for a snack break, taking in the breathtaking vista.

Finally we will descend via the popular Kasteelspoort trail, which will take about 90 minutes and bring us back to our starting point.
Other things to note
This is not a normal hike! The route will bring you close to alarming drops, and is rather strenuous. You will need a decent fitness level and a head for heights.

Hi, I'm Lukas the Housecat!

I am a registered adventure guide - accredited to lead off-trail and overnight hikes - with more than ten years of mountain experience; hiking, trekking and rock climbing. I also served as mountain rescue volunteer with the Mountain Club of South Africa.

During my eight years living in Cape Town, I've spent probably too much time on Table Mountain :) Having explored all its nooks and crannies, I've decided to share my insider knowledge with guests by leading adventure hikes on its more remote sections

Where you'll be

We'll be hiking on the Twelve Apostles section of Table Mountain. On the summit, we will visit the ruins of the aerial cableway used to construct the reservoirs on top of the mountain. We will also visit the famous "diving board" rock formation where you can Instagram away. Should you wish, we can also visit the reservoirs on the mountain as well as one of Table Mountain's caves.
