Women-led Creatives Entrepreneurship

La Habana, Cuba

Experience hosted by Beatriz

2.5 hours
Includes food, drinks, transportation
Up to 10 people
Hosted in English, Spanish

What you'll do

The world of Cuban creative entrepreneurship is fascinating. It is a relatively new sector, which is struggling to grow and develop in the face of the limitations imposed by the Cuban economic, political and social context. Women entrepreneurs are an active part of this movement, with super attractive and innovative proposals.

What do I propose? An immersion. We will visit 5 creative projects led by women, we will share details of the gestation and development of each one of them, the motivations of their creators, their aspirations; you will discover that they are not only business but life projects. We will be talking about economy, with emphasis on female entrepreneurship and its conditions in Cuba, but also about current Cuban society, culture and politics.

You will be able to appreciate firsthand, and buy if you wish, an incredible world of things that Cuba has to offer, not the typical souvenirs; but authentic and genuine Cuban products born from the originality and passion of the women who conceived these projects and materialized them.

If you bet on what is different, on discovering another Cuba, not the one sold by magazines, nor the one offered to tourists in the heart of Old Havana; this experience is for you. Support female entrepreneurship in Cuba and make a difference.
Other things to note
We'll walking mostly in our tour, so please use comfortable clothes and shoes, and something to protect you of the sun ( sunglasses, hat, sun protection)

Hi, I'm Beatriz. I am an economist, researcher and entrepreneur. I worked for 10 years at the Juan Marinello Cuban Institute for Cultural Research, on topics related to the economy of culture, creative industries, and cultural and creative entrepreneurship. In the last two years I have managed a platform to promote drawing and engraving, which includes the development of artistic-pedagogical projects and art experiences (@havana.art.experiences). In my professional experience I have accompanied the development of many creative/cultural projects, and now assume the role of manager and entrepreneur, gives me a much more complete vision of the processes, which I would love to share with you.

My friends and I took this tour as we thought it would be a great combination of art, culture, and shopping...and Beatriz hit the mark on every one of these areas! We started with coffee and gained interesting insight into Cuba's economic conditions, then visited local artisians where we learned about their craft and were able to purchase unique, well priced items to take home. Beatriz was an amazing guide - she is friendly, caring, knowledgeable and really wanted to make sure we all enjoyed our tour. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for more than a basic tour of typical tourist shops where the guides steer you to places where they get a discount. Beatriz won't let you down - book it now!

This is a new experience on AirBnb and if you are interested evenly slightly in Cuban art, especially women artists, this is an experience you don't want to miss! I learned SO much about Cuba, Cuban art, and the obstacles artists face in order to provide us with such beauty. Beatriz was an incredible host on the tour, and her artist husband joined us for a bit which was wonderful. They were incredibly kind, friendly and knowledgeable and took me to places I would never have found on my own. After returning home, I am sharing the information I learned from this amazing experience and have done more research on Cuban art and its artists ever since. It is truly an experience that is not to be missed!

Beatriz provides a unique perspective on the art scene in Cuba as an economist and an entrepreneur. She further exposes you to women run businesses that are contributing to a sustainable community as well as a cultural and artistic experience. Beatriz definitely showed us places we never would have seen on our own and has opened my mind to the emerging innovative economy of Cuba.

The Women Art Entrepreneurs experience with Beatriz was very special. She is a trained economist and therefore was able to give a unique perspective on artists in Cuba and how women artists are creating new ways to present their work. Beatriz was so warm and friendly and her passion for promoting the arts was clear. Through her connections in the art community, we had the opportunity to visit several unique stores and workshops and speak to the women who had started these enterprises. Beatriz’s husband Octavio, also an artist, came along and added even more perspectives on being an artist in Cuba. I feel that I made a real connection with both Beatriz and Octavio. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to have an authentic experience in Havana. You won’t be disappointed!

This experience was INCREDIBLE! Beatriz knows so much about female entrepreneurship, cooperatives, and artists and I'm so glad I did this experience. We went inside lots of female-run businesses and got to chat with owners and employees and it gave us insight into a side of Cuban entrepreneurship that I don't think is offered in other experiences. BOOK THIS NOW!

IGNORE THE LACK OF REVIEWS, this is a brand new experience perfect for kicking off your stay in Cuba. We were the first group to take this new experience. The first half hour of getting coffee and discussing the history of Cuba's economy/free enterprise sector will allow you to appreciate the the rest of the tour AND your trip. Beatriz was so helpful, passionate, and extremely knowledgeable. Greatly enjoyed seeing how these woman-lead businesses support themselves in the dynamic new market.
