What you'll do

A Gentle Encounter with Tea Mindful Tea Tasting with Kat

Learn to use your senses to appreciate the state of the tea leaves, and be aware of your own capabilities to appreciate tea before actual tasting. Using direct experience and free association, distinguish the shape, colour, texture, thickness and scent of the tea leaves before brewing them in water.
Depend on sensation rather than reason. The variations in the tea leaves is innumerable, like the reflections in a kaleidoscope. Through the exercise above, follow the trail of the leaves, the pieces of the puzzle called “nature.” Learn how watch how a leaf-its shape, colour, touch or scent-changes over time. Unravel the natural codes of the tea leaves, and learn that the changing leaf is in fact a life in miniature.

I’m a tea planner.
Specifically, I’m a tea trainer. I’m a content strategist. I’m a tea lady. I’m a tea master. I’m a sensory experience designer, designing for the senses. I’m a storyteller.
I learned the tea ceremony in my youth, and that encounter with tasty Chinese tea changed my life. The taste was amazing and surprising, so I fell in love with Chinese tea. I love the comfortable atmosphere of drinking tea with my family, friends, or even people I've just met. So I'd like to enjoy it with you.

I can't believe I hesitated to try this unique Airbnb experience. I drink tea every day but didn't know much about teas so I was curious. Hands down, I had an amazing time with Katherine. It was such a memorable and enjoyable experience, I can't praise her enough. Katherine is elegant, creative, and a master of her craft. She has this beautiful artist's studio where she hosts her Airbnb guests. She teaches about the different types of teas, tools used for brewing tea, and every day Chinese tea etiquette. My favorite part of the experience is how she teaches you techniques to use your senses to identify the different aromas of teas, whether teas are fruity, flowery, nutty, etc. She finishes with an elaborate tea tasting (delicious!) and even sent me away with some leaves for white tea. This isn't just some hobby for Katherine, it's her profession and passion. I hope others will learn to recognize and appreciate her expertise.

I wasn't sure what to expect as there weren't other reviews, however, for tea lovers, this was a must-have experience. Both my husband and I drink tea daily, and we have a fond appreciation of it but not much knowledge beyond what we have read for self edification. We were exposed to teas we had never heard of, and her descriptions of where the tea comes from and how it is cultivated was eye-opening. After learning about the tea, we tasted and contrasted, which was so much fun- she even provided handouts which helped us know what flavors and aromas to look for. The finale was a traditional tea ceremony, which I had never experienced. She is passionate about tea, and the depth of her knowledge is boundless. We highly recommend this tea experience!
