Experiences & Services liability insurance is a key component of AirCover for Hosts, which is top-to-bottom protection for Airbnb Hosts. The Experiences & Services liability insurance program (“ELI program”) insures Experience and Service Hosts, in certain countries, for their legal liability for bodily injury or property damage to guests or others resulting from an event that happens during a guest’s participation in an Airbnb Experience or Service, subject to the terms, conditions, and exclusions of the Experiences & Services liability insurance.
The ELI program only insures Experience and Service Hosts for their liability to others, so injury to the Experience Host, Service Host, or damage or loss to their own property, is not covered. There is no additional cost to Hosts for them to be insured under the ELI program.
Airbnb requires that all Experience and Service Hosts maintain primary liability insurance appropriate for your business. Based on the type of Experience or Service you want to host, you may be required to provide proof of licensure and/or insurance as part of the submission process.
Liability insurance maintained by Experience and Service Hosts is the primary source of coverage while hosting an Experience or providing a Service. The ELI program generally provides Experience and Service Hosts with excess or contingent liability insurance. If the Experience or Service Host’s insurance applies to the claim, the ELI program is excess. When the ELI program is excess, it will only pay covered damages on behalf of Hosts after their insurance has been exhausted. The ELI program may also apply as contingent. Contingent insurance means the ELI Program will apply as primary coverage in the event the Experience or Service Host’s other insurance does not apply to the claim. Hosts or their insurance advisers should check the terms and conditions of their own insurance policy.
For a small subset of Experiences, the ELI program is not applicable and where this is the case, Hosts may want to consider whether or not they need to take out their own liability insurance for the Experience.
This ELI program summary does not contain the full terms, conditions, and exclusions. In the United States, in certain instances, the ELI program is underwritten by a non-admitted insurer and may not be subject to your state’s insurance laws and regulations and is not protected by the insolvency guaranty fund.
The ELI program currently extends to Experience and Service Hosts globally, except for jurisdictions subject to applicable sanctions laws.
The ELI program provides insurance through policies issued by different insurance companies. In the majority of jurisdictions, the ELI program provides insurance through a policy issued by Zurich Insurance Company Ltd., one of the world’s largest insurance providers. In some jurisdictions, where a locally issued policy is required by local laws or regulations, coverage may be provided by a Zurich Insurance Company Ltd. partner company. In the United Kingdom, this policy has been arranged and concluded at no additional cost for the benefit of United Kingdom Hosts by Airbnb UK Services Limited, an appointed representative of Aon UK Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. In Spain, the ELI program has been arranged and concluded at no additional cost for the benefit of Experience and Service Hosts in the European Economic Area (EEA) by Airbnb Spain Insurance Agency S.L.U. (ASIASL), a non-tied insurance agency supervised by the Directorate General for Insurance Pension and Funds (DGSFP) and registered in Spain with number AJ0364 in the Registry of the Insurance Distributors of the DGSFP. Note that if your home is located in a country or territory where the Experiences & Services liability insurance program is unable to provide direct insurance cover, you may still be able to benefit from the Experiences & Services liability insurance program under indirect cover provided by an authorised insurer to Airbnb Ireland UC.
Different coverage limits and terms may apply depending on the jurisdiction.
The current term of the ELI program is effective to at least June 30, 2026.
Hosts who list Experiences or Services on Airbnb’s Platform are insured under the ELI program during the Experience or Service period, unless the Experience or Service is not covered by the ELI program. If applicable, the ELI program covers Experience and Service Hosts for incidents that result in the Host’s legal liability resulting from a bodily injury or property damage claim arising from a guest’s participation in an Airbnb Experience or Service. The incident must also occur during the Airbnb Experience or Service Period and have been arranged using the Airbnb Platform.
The ELI program will apply on a contingent or excess basis to those Experiences and Services involving watercrafts and automobiles. Experience and Service Hosts using a personal auto in connection with their Experience or Service may not be covered under their personal auto policy. Hosts should consult their insurance advisers to determine whether their coverage is sufficient.
The ELI program does not apply to the following Experiences taking place in the United States:
Coverage does apply to the aforementioned Experiences that occur outside of the United States, with the exceptions of heli skiing and bungee jumping, which are not covered regardless of where they occur.

Please immediately submit the liability insurance intake form if you become aware of any bodily injury or property damage that may be a subject to coverage under the ELI program. After the intake form is completed, a third-party claims adjuster appointed by the insurer will get in touch with you to discuss the claim and gather information. The adjuster will then handle the claim in accordance with the terms of the ELI program and applicable laws and regulations in the applicable jurisdiction.
