Founded in 1957, my grandfather, Eiichi Tanuchi, ran an inn called Aiwasho for the cultural development of Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture. In order to continue to protect its history and traditions, his granddaughter, Kiushuko, reopened the inn under its original name in 2021. Built on the site of Ueno Castle, this inn is a traditional Japanese house with tatami mats on the floor. Please relax in one of the two Japanese-style rooms. The inn is located on a hill overlooking the city of Tanabe, so you can enjoy the morning sun, sunset, and night view. On a calm day, we recommend having tea in a wicker chair on the edge of the hinoki cypress wooden deck, which was made in the image of the moon viewing platform of the Katsura Imperial Villa. The newly installed bath and toilet are spacious and barrier-free, so you can bathe together or use them easily even if you need assistance. We installed popin.aladdin (lighting with projector) in one of the Japanese-style rooms. It projects on the sliding doors You can watch TV, music, movies, etc. Enjoy BGM on YouTube before you go out in the morning. My parents, Kisaku and Shuko Tanai (Japanese), live next to the house, so please let me know if you need anything.

Tenjinzaki is an inn within a 15-minute walk to Tenjinzaki, which is called Uyuni Salt Lake in Wakayama. Although it is also famous for its haunted fishing spots, Tenjinzaki is famous for the beautiful reflection of the water accumulated in the rocky reef, making it a view like Uyuni Salt Lake. It's a popular place to take beautiful photos. It has also been selected as the "100 Sunsets and Sunsets in Wakayama Prefecture" by the Wakayama Prefecture Tourism Federation, and the sunset over the offshore is very beautiful. You can enjoy three bedrooms, multiple families, friends, clubs, etc. You can feel close to nature in Tenjinzaki. Ogahama, where you can enjoy swimming in the summer, is a 10-minute drive. There is also a supermarket, convenience store, and coin laundry within a 5-minute drive. You can enjoy a day-use hot spring at SeaTaiger, a resort club where you can enjoy a marine resort, which is a 3-minute walk away.(Fee: 500 yen for adults and under 300 yen for elementary school students) There is a day-use hot spring in the Kamenoi Hotel, which is about a 10-minute walk and a 3-minute drive, and you can enjoy the natural hot spring "Tenjin Onsen Tanabe Motoyu".(Fee: Adult 750 yen Children 400 yen)

Limited to one group per day, Guest House Agai is convenient for walking the Kumano Kodo and playing in the river. You can experience country life.

Guest House Agae is a renovated traditional house that can only accommodate one group at a time. It is in a very convenient location, about 550 m (about 7 minutes on foot) to Kumano Kodo and Kinkou Oji, a supermarket (A-COOP), a bus stop (Kodo Aruki no Sato Chikatsuyu), and restaurants (Shoji Teahouse and Tororo-ya). The owner is a local Kumano Kodo guide, so we will do our best to accommodate your questions and advice about walking the Kumano Kodo, as well as pick-up and drop-off when you need it. We can also provide personal guides, so please let us know. Prices do not include meals. Located on the southern slope of Mt. Myoho, one of the peaks in the World Heritage Kumano-Nachi mountain range, this is a mountain hut-style private accommodation with a 180-degree panoramic view of the mountains and the Kumano Sea spreading out below.　 The accommodation building has a traditional Japanese sunken kotatsu fireplace and a wood stove, so you can experience rural life, warm yourself by the wood stove, and be soothed by the flickering flames through the glass. Vegetables, blueberries, and fruit trees are grown on nearby farms, and you can experience picking them. We also raise chickens, so you can enjoy a slightly different morning egg rice with freshly laid eggs. You can also enjoy nature and refresh your mind and body in the midst of the seasonal scenery. As a Japanese cultural experience, there is a calligraphy lesson by a young female calligrapher. Reservations are required and it costs 1,000 yen per person for about an hour. This is the hidden entrance to Kumano Kodo, ``Kuchikuma no'' In this area, which most people pass by without knowing about it, there is the world heritage site ``Inabane Oji'' and in front of it is ``Mizugo Riba''. It was believed that mizugori would purify past sins and impurities, and even retired emperors would walk across the Tonda River in the Middle Ages. MIZUGORI-SOU is located near such a place. This is a recommended accommodation when walking the Kumano Kodo.

Two rental floatation rings and two rental compact fishing tackle are available (advance reservation, extra charge).

"Genki House", a house near Kumano Hongu-Taisha

It’s a house 8km from the Hongu Taisha. (about 15 minutes' drive) If you have a car it's more convenient, but if not I'll be happy to drive you to and from a bus stop or a tourism spot in Hongu area. My family run an organic farm, bakery, NPO offering long-stay for the youth, and an alternative school for children nearby. You'll have some loaves of bread from our bakery(^^)/ （If you don't eat bread please let me know beforehand)

Kumano Nakahechi "MINE-no-Yado" Mine own house

"MINE-no-Yado" Mine own house is a small Japanese style cottage in Mine village where includes Takijiri-oji, the entrance to the sacred mountains of Kumano. The house is at an elevation of 300m. You can enjoy a panoramic view of Kumano mountains, a wonderful starry night and even sea of clouds.

"Himeno-no-Yado Hime" is a 3-minute walk to the sea, a quiet private space where you can enjoy fishing and the starry sky!
