Explore Latin Vinyl Treasures with a DJ & Rockstar

Explore an archipelago of iconic record stores in the musical sea that is Roma and Condesa with me, a DJ, vinyl enthusiast, and indie rock bassist. On this three-hour excursion, you’ll dig out Latin and tropical treasures on vinyl, hear the stories behind the music, and listen to your finds. • Meet at 99 Records, where I’ll talk about my career and my passion for music, set the tone for our hunt for pre-owned tropical and Latin gems, and give you a "Joakks on Wax" tote bag. • Stroll to one great record shop after another, including Salvaje Music Store, Casa Calypso, and Revancha, and explore the racks. Along the way, I’ll share insights about the connections among various genres, get to talk to the owners and discuss the urge and love of digging new and old music in vinyl for the dance floor, our house and our soul. • And to finish the journey we will visit Casa Calypso, one of the best curated record stores for digging latin and tropical music in 12" and mostly in 7" from all times and zones. And to finish we’ll get to discuss our shopping bags and play some of the records we’ve unearthed. You’ll leave with an insider’s perspective on Mexico City’s vinyl and music scenes—and maybe some future favorite records to spin.

Cumbia Jam & Workshop - dive into CDMX's music dna

Mexico City's DNA is full of music and cumbia is a key part of it. In this experience you’ll join a 2 hour jam to create your very own cumbia band and dive deep into Mexico's musical culture and connect with musicians from its live music scene. We'll start with a welcome session in Casa Pepe where you'll learn about the idols of Mexican cumbia and take a simple, yet effective, intro workshop into how to play a cumbia. Then, we'll head to Banana Media Studio whereyou'll dive into a semi guided jam that will turn the group (what will probably start as a punk-diy ensemble) into a fun cumbia band that is almost ready to release its first song, has a band name, created its very own dance-step and even has an album cover design ready for printing. At the end of the jam you'll also receive a recording of the song - so your friends believe that you actually did create a cumbia band in Mexico City. You'll also connect with a couple of musicians from the Latin Alternative music scene, who will be able to point you in the direction of the best events, parties and sites to discover Mexico City's music culture properly. The best thing of this jam is that's great for beginners, full time musicians and those mom and dads that are into music but haven't had an excuse to play in a live band for years. The adventures starts at 7:40-7:45 am at Monumento a la Revolución, where we will depart to Teotihuacan in a private group van (50 min.) You will have a fun guided group tour in English through the greatest pyramids of the Sun and the Moon. You will be amazed in the Citadel by the mysteries hidden under the Feathered Serpent temple. We will continue our tour to the most fascinating activity, enter to the underworld (cave) where, we will have a light lunch or snack inside an ancient cave excavated by the Teotihuacans 2000 years ago. We are going to have a great time!!! but please take in consideration: We will be back to México , the DROP OFF will be at Monumento a la Revolución between 3:30- 4:30 pm. Super detailed salsa class and tacos

Let's learn to dance salsa! (Cuban style). You don't need any previous knowledge of salsa. We'll have a very detailed session starting from zero. We'll begin with a brief intruduction to cuban salsa music and dance including some history and cultural references; then we'll start moving. We'll cover different moves, displacements and figures in detail alternating explanations and practice to make sure you understand clearly. Also we are going to learn how to listen to music, how to count the beats and to identify the right moment to start dancing. I'll show you the right position of legs, arms and hands to avoid injuries, and a few styling details that will make you shine on the dance floor. To close this great journey we will go to have some delicious tacos and a refreshing agua fresca (fruit drink). About the current situation, please keep in mind that dancing involves physical contact, however it is important to mention that I've already been vaccinated (full scheme) and around 70% of the adult population in Mexico has received at least the first dose of the vaccine. Also I've made a couple of changes to keep us as safe as possible. We'll wear face masks and hand sanitizer will be available. Other things to note: I share my tiny apartment with a dog. I’m a native of this amazing and vibrant metropolis and it would be my esteemed pleasure to show you an unforgettable evening out in the one and only, Ciudad de México! I love meeting new people from around the world and sharing my home town from an authentic, local’s perspective. My experience starts with a couple of mouth-watering tacos at my favorite restaurant/bar, Cafe Tacobar (they have some of the best Mexican inspired cocktails in the whole city as well!). We will then take a short walk to a few more iconic bars in the neighborhood where you will try more emblematic cocktails that represent Mexico in techniques, tendencies, local ingredients, as well as meet the people who are behind the unforgettable drinks. The idea is not only to have fun, but also to get a better perspective of the bourgeoning cocktail movement in Mexico City by understanding what local bartenders are doing and their influences and inspiration. Other things to note are that all of the places we will visit are close to each other, but I would still recommend to wear comfortable shoes. Remember to bring your ID, hydrate, and I will try my absolute best to make you want to cancel your ticket home as you will most definitely be enamored by this amazing and captivating city, vamos!
