Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

Enjoy a king sized bed and a loveseat for watching TV. The loveseat is not big enough to sleep on. The suite and upper - hosts floor share one heating and cooling system with a thermostat on main floor. Our guests are able to control a comfortable temperature in the suite by adjusting ceiling vents.

On the peir you will find boat builders and canvas makers and the largest paddle sport operation on the island. The place was absolutely lovely! The space was clean and so well equipped. The bed was comfortable and the linens top of the line, luxurious bed linens. The owners had charging cords on each side of the beds and tables… fresh flowers greeted us! The kitchen was well equipped with anything needed for a comfort stay. Coffee & tea provided… ! The only precaution would be those that may have physical challenges as access to the unit is a steep uphill climb to the unit. Also, if you have heavy luggage, it’s a bit challenge getting from the driveway to the cottage. Be cautious, I slipped and fell 66 yo) on the departure this morning on the pathway to the driveway with our luggage. However, the unit is one of the cleanest and loveliest cottages we’ve ever stayed in.. just wanted to advise those that are physically challenged about the steep driveway! We would absolutely stay here again! Hosts were very responsive as well!

We had a fantastic stay! Comfortable bed, AC is great, has all the kitchen amenities you need and more! For our dog there was a bed, towel, bowls, and treats! The location is on a beautiful, private property with lots of trees and wildlife. Many hiking trails near by. The space is very clean and comfortable. Lance and Amber were fantastic hosts! We left a few items by accident and they generously shipped it back to us, really going above and beyond!

We liked it so much last year, we returned this year for a second stay. That says everything. Everything is serene. The location is prime -close access to everywhere and everything. House is cozy and is also pristine. I sleep better here than anywhere, including in my own bed. Kari and Jamie are super friendly and thoughtful hosts. We highly recommend it (please just don't book when I want it :)!
