Guests look for experiences that they feel they can’t get elsewhere. Use your knowledge and personality to make your activities authentic and memorable.

Offering a new perspective

Experiences should help guests access a culture, skill, or place with local hosts who know their city best.

  • Show off your city. Organise activities guests couldn’t do on their own. Justin, who hosts walking tours in Sydney and Brisbane, Australia, takes guests beyond typical attractions. ‘People have their image of what Sydney is—harbour beaches, the opera house, seafood’, he says. ‘But I take guests to places like Little Italy and Thai Town. It’s finding local business owners whose stories I can tell.’
  • Add your personality. Showcase your authentic connection to the activity. Evren, who hosts a music walking tour of Soho in London, has played guitar in a band, run a record label and managed a rock band. ‘You’re not going to get this anywhere else’, he says.

Making it memorable

Consider what you want your guests to take away from their time with you.

  • Do something unforgettable. It doesn’t have to be extravagant or expensive. Ruthy, who hosts a food tour in Lisbon, takes her guests to a family restaurant to taste their farm’s olive oil. ‘You can’t buy it, so trying it in their restaurant is very special.’
  • Provide a memento. This should be specific to the experience, like handmade pasta or pottery. Danylo, who hosts photography workshops in Berlin, helps edit his guests’ favourite photos from their time together. ‘It’s a reward, adding that little bit of editing magic’, he says.

If you change your experience to make it more unique, update your listing so guests know what to expect.
