The Messages tab is your Airbnb inbox. It puts all your hosting, travelling and support messages in one place. Features in the Messages tab let you:

  • Filter messages and search across your inbox.
  • Send and schedule messages, including pre-written templates called quick replies.
  • Communicate with every guest on a reservation in one conversation.
  • Start threaded replies to keep conversations organised.
  • Edit and unsend sent messages.
  • Use read receipts to see when guests view your messages.
  • React to messages with emojis.

Filtering and searching messages

The default view shows all your messages on Airbnb. Select Hosting, Travelling or Support to filter messages by type.

Within Hosting, you can apply these additional filters:

  • Unread displays only unopened messages.
  • Trip stage sorts messages by reservation requests, upcoming reservations, currently hosting or past reservations.
  • Listings organises messages by listing if you have more than one.
  • Starred shows only the messages you’ve marked with a star.

If you have a co-host, are a Superhost Ambassador or host an Airbnb Experience, you’ll find these filters in the Messages tab:

  • Co-Host shows conversations between you and any co-hosts on a listing.
  • Superhost Ambassador displays messages between you and hosts you’ve matched with.
  • Experiences lets you read messages related to those bookings.

Apply the Travelling filter to view messages you send and receive as a guest. Use the Support filter to see your conversations with Airbnb Support.

Looking for a specific conversation? You can search messages by names, words or phrases. The results take into account any filters you’ve applied, helping you find conversations faster.

Sending and scheduling quick replies

Clear, timely communication is a key part of successful hosting. Start conversations, provide information and answer questions from guests in the Messages tab.

To save time, try using the quick replies feature. Quick replies are message templates for sharing routine information, so you don’t have to start from scratch. You’ll find a few pre-written ones in the Messages tab to support guests at key moments, like right after booking. You can use these quick replies as is, edit them or create your own custom templates.

The Messages tab uses artificial intelligence to understand guest questions and automatically suggest a quick reply as an answer. The suggested reply appears in your conversation with the guest, where only you can see it.

You’ll be able to review, edit, and send the suggested quick reply right away or schedule it for delivery later. Placeholders in the templates automatically fill in certain booking and listing details—like the location, guest’s name and check-in time—when the message is sent. Make sure your listing is complete and up to date, because messages with empty placeholders won’t send correctly.

When a message you’ve scheduled is coming up, you’ll see a reminder in your conversation with the guest. Adjust or skip sending the message if it repeats information you’ve already shared.

Communicating with a group

Each booking starts a new conversation in the Messages tab.

The booking guest can invite other adults travelling with them to join the reservation. Guests who accept the invitation are added to the conversation, and you send messages to the whole group. Guests can read all the messages, even if they join late, so you don’t have to repeat yourself.

Tap the Details button for more information about the reservation and conversation, including a list of everyone who’s joined. Select a guest’s photo to access their profile and learn more about who you’re hosting.

Using other messaging features

You’ll find more features for managing conversations in the Messages tab, including threaded replies, editing tools, read receipts and emojis.

  • Threaded replies let you start a thread when replying to a message, which nests your response under the original message.
  • Editing tools enable you to edit a message within 15 minutes of sending it, and unsend a message within 24 hours.
  • Read receipts show whether guests or other recipients have viewed your messages, unless they’ve turned off this feature in their account settings.
  • Emojis let you acknowledge a message with a smiley face, heart, thumbs up, clapping hands or laughing face.
