Get your first 5-star review
Ratings and reviews are posted on your listing and help guests decide if your service is right for them. Positive guest feedback helps you build your brand on Airbnb and can lead to more bookings and higher earnings.
Understanding how reviews work
Guests are prompted to write a review as soon as the service is complete. Their feedback helps you deliver the highest quality service. They’re asked to provide:
- An overall rating. Guests rate your service on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. Your average overall rating appears on your listing, in search results and on your profile.
- Detailed ratings. Guests provide more specific feedback by rating hospitality, reliability and value. If you provide a service at your business or public space, like hair styling in your salon or a yoga session on a beach, they’ll also be asked to rate the location.
- A public review. This appears on your profile and in the reviews section of your listing. If you reply to a public review, your response will appear below it.
- A private note. This feedback doesn’t appear on your listing—it’s just for you.
Once you’ve gotten your first 3 reviews, you’ll unlock insights on guest feedback. Use the menu to access the insights section of the Airbnb app.
Focusing on quality
Airbnb hosting tools can help you exceed guest expectations.
Provide great service. Think about how to personalise your offerings to help guests feel cared for and welcome.
- Communicate with guests in the Messages tab to ask about guest preferences, respond to questions and create custom offerings.
- Use quick replies to easily customise and send a welcome message after a booking and a follow-up note after a service.
- Include extra touches that make your offering feel even more special.
Ensure everything runs smoothly. Show you’re reliable by being prepared, setting clear expectations and responding to guest messages promptly before and after each service.
- Get any supplies ready ahead of time and, if you’re travelling to the guest, consider your route to arrive promptly. Use your Airbnb calendar to schedule time in between bookings for travel and setup.
- Schedule messages to be sent at certain times, like the day before a service, so your guest knows what to expect.
- Turn on notifications in the Airbnb app and in your device’s settings to stay on top of messages.
- If you’re providing a service at someone else’s home, leave the space as you found it.
Provide great value. A competitive price is an important factor when it comes to value. You can set your prices or add discounts in the Listings tab.
- Add at least 3 offerings at different prices to give guests more options and help meet your earnings goals. The best practice is to set up offerings at entry, standard and premium prices.
- Consider starting with a price that’s slightly lower and reassess after you build your reputation on Airbnb with strong ratings and reviews.
- Add limited-time, early-bird and group discounts to help attract guests.
- Browse Airbnb and other platforms for services like yours to compare local prices to be competitive.
In addition to these hospitality tips, keep Airbnb’s Host Ground Rules and Hosting Safety Policies in mind. They outline basic expectations for providing safe, high-quality services.
All hosts, photos and listing details must meet the standards and requirements for Airbnb Services.
