About this listing

One of three charming cottages in a converted cortijo sharing a stunning pool overlooking rural olive groves. Guide book recommended, peace and tranquility combined with access to the cultural centres of Granada, Cordoba, Malaga and Antequera.

The space

Casita Galgo (meaning Little Greyhound house) provides spacious, comfortable and airy accommodation. Access is through an original door into the private courtyard where you can enjoy wining and dining in the sun!

On the ground floor is a large twin bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, walk in shower, toilet, basin and window. The bedroom has two large windows, one looking out over the valley and the other into the courtyard, allowing for cooling cross breezes.

There are outside stairs leading up to the open plan living area, giving the best views from the entire cortijo through the three large windows. There is a comfortable sofa, satellite television and a wood burner for cooler evenings.

The fully equipped kitchen area has an electric oven/hob plus a fridge with a small freezer compartment: essential for cooling the local beer and wine! A good range of plates, pots, glasses etc. allow for home from home, relaxed food preparation.

Basics (such as salt, pepper, oil, washing up liquid etc.) are provided as part of our service. There is a kitchen table to seat two for dining.

Outside and downstairs there is a private courtyard surrounded by traditional high white walls.. You are not overlooked by the other casitas. There is a covered shady area for really hot summer days, patio furniture and a barbecue based in the chimney breast of what was the original outside kitchen: make the most of the outside living for which sunny Andalucia is justifiably famous! Guests are welcome to smoke outside in their own courtyard.

Our licence number from the Junta de Andalucia is No. de Registro VTAR/GR/000760.
Our Tax Identification number for IVA (VAT) is B(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)

Guest access

The communal patio and pool area is shared by a maximum of 10 guests and is set on the side of the hill facing fantastic views of the valley, hills and olive groves. There are tables and chairs provided for eating, or sitting with a cool drink and watching the sun set…… There are also cushioned loungers for sun lovers! The pool is set on the edge of the patio and has a comfortable seating ledge in the water, giving you somewhere to sit and keep cool whilst you read or just gaze at the view…..

There is an outside shower room with toilet and basin so that you do not have to return to your casita once ensconced in the sunshine.

There is also a laundry room accessed from the pool patio area, with a washing machine, wash basin, iron and ironing board for communal use.

Interaction with guests

Marylynne and Gillian are resident in a private part of the cortijo all year round and available to help and advise guests on making the most of their holiday.

Other things to note

A car is essential both to access the cortijo and to make the most of Andalucia's culture and history.

This place is a real secret gem in the Andalusian hills. Gillian and Marylynne are the perfect hosts with excellent local knowledge and recommendations of sights / restaurants etc. They have a map for everything! Great communication right from booking giving us directions from Malaga airport to Last Rosas via a nice restaurant for lunch and a good supermarket. They really have thought of everything.

A great place to unwind! Gillian and Marylynne are great hosts, thinking of everything. Lovely quiet location, spotless, characterful rooms, managing to stay cool even in excessive temperatures! The pool is pretty unbeatable. Our 2 1/2 year old also loved it - especially the toys, dogs, cat, lizards... Thank you!

Everything about our holiday was amazing, it was exactly what we wanted and what was advertised. Marylynne and Gillian were so attentive to all our needs especially prior to our holiday including directions, local restaurants and food shopping. They were lovely and friendly hosts and always went the extra mile for us. They helped wherever they could and helped make out holiday the best it could be. We will definitely be going back as soon as possible.

Response from Gillian & Marylynne:
Daniel & Kimberley were a pleasure to host and were happy, considerate guests. They communicated wonderfully both before and after arrival which helps enormously. We would wholeheartedly recommend them to any AirBNB hosts. They left their casita in very clean and tidy condition.

a dream!

Gillian and Marylynne’s Cortijo las Rosas near Iznajar is a real gem! I found this peaceful retreat quite by chance, lucky me! I really needed a rest after many many days of traveling and visiting. And this place was perfect place to settle down, rest my brain and soul and breath fresh air. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I arrived at their house after quite a fun journey up the twisting road. You never know exactly when you will arrive but you must trust Gillian´s absolute detailed road indications. It is impossible to miss the place. Once I unpacked, saw the pool and the olive trees around the house, smell the jasmine which climbs the jasmine that climbs the wall of the casita, I knew I did not want to leave. It was exactly how I pictured paradise! I was given la Casita Galgo, a two-story apartment with my bedroom on the main floor and the kitchen and living room up the stairs. Lovely place! Every detail is designed so that the guest feels at home. Nothing is missing. Gillian and Marylynne check in once in a while to see if everything’s fine, which was at any time, obviously. The system of stars here is practically obsolete! I would give a zillion stars. The hosts are brilliant, the site is magical, the environment a delight. I’m sure I will be back. I just want to share this little piece of paradise with the ones I love. Gillian and Marylynne, I have no word to express my gratitude. Hope to see you soon! Lucie

Stunning villa and location. Well thought out design of apartments and very clean and tidy. Overall a peaceful stay in a wonderful part of the world, many thanks. However, we hadn't realised quite how remote it was - took a long time to get to nearest shops/restaurants. Wifi was advertised but not available in the apartment. Also it was a shame not to be able to use log burners! Perhaps these things could have been made clearer on the website description.

Response from Gillian & Marylynne:
There are ‘autoservicios’ (small village supermarkets) in our local village just 2-3km distance away. For a good ‘international standard’ supermarket it’s a half hour trip into Rute. There is also a bar serving food in the village – but the owners were closed for a holiday. In late October (at the time of Toby’s stay) at least two other nearby cafes/restaurants are closed for the season. Wifi - technology in rural Spain can be challenging. Wifi availability is provided at a comfortable seating spot outside. Normally the log fire would be usable in October, However, we had a very dry summer which continued (unusually) right through October apart from one rainfall. Wonderful weather for guests but the danger of fire in the countryside (with all the olive trees and dried grasses) is huge. Lighting fires/log burners under these conditions is a fire risk in the countryside. As such we provided alternative heating in the form of a gas fire for the lounge.

Gilli and Marylynne were wonderful and attentative hosts. They are wonderful happy people who will ensure your stay is the best it can be. As hosts they provided us with plenty of information before our arrival and continually updated us. They were helpful in directing us to the secluded and peaceful villa, and with maps to supermarkets and restaurants. They showed us around and due to our late arrival, ensured there was a basket of food and drink to help us get by until we could get some shopping. The villa itself was clean and tidy, with everything you could possibly need. The private outdoor BBQ and eating area was a plus and the pool area was top notch. The real stunning point is the location of the villa. The view from the pool is amazing and the drive itself to the villa around the mountains and along the Iznajar water were breathtaking. The secluded spot of the villa is peaceful adn tranquil, couldnt ask for any more. The roads were suitable for our convertible so dont let the remoteness of the villa put you off staying here, easily assesscible. Would love to come back when exploring the area again. 10/10

Marylynne and Gillian are sisters who bought the old cortijo as a retirement project after both living and working in various parts of the world. Andalucia has given them a home which reflects a perfect blend of their South African roots and desert childhoods,
