hi Olly Pleased you enjoyed your stay at our cottage, we love walking in the hills and dales which is how we ended up living here. The beauty of Derbyshire is addictive, watch out you could end up living here one day.

Superb cottage in a very quiet village. The cottage was superbly presented and very comfortable. Beds very comfortable. Dog friendly too which is a real bonus. A great location for walks such as the Harrington and Biggin walks. If you plan to dine at the Waterloo Inn pub, be sure to book especially on weekends. We made a mistake of strolling in on Saturday evening thinking it would be quiet as the village was so small. How wrong we were. A great choice of cottage for our stay.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Number 3. The cottage is beautifully renovated and decorated, and has all your mod cons for a cosy weekend away. The lay out is great for a family with lots of space and comfy beds, big bathroom and everything you need in the kitchen. Beautiful views from both the front and back bedrooms. We would recommend the cottage to anyone who wants to get away from it all and retreat to the countryside (we had no phone reception at all but the wifi worked well). The village is tiny, but in a good location for exploring the Peak District. I would recommend booking if you want to eat at either the Waterloo Inn or Biggin Hall in Biggin as we didn't book and then couldn't get a table. But we drove to nearby Hartington (about 2 miles away) and had a lovely meal one night in the Devonshire Arms. Chatsworth is around 30 minutes away and well worth a visit, and both Buxton and Ashbourne are around 30 minutes away. John was a great host and left us a bottle of wine which my parents devoured. John gave us clear directions to the cottage and how to check in, and there's lots of information in the cottage about things to do locally. Thanks for a great stay!

Response from John:
Hi Rebecca Pleased you had a great time, thanks for the great review. There is so much to do in and around Biggin by Hartington. Hadden hall is another stately home which is close by and open to the public. Well worth a visit another time. Thankyou for being such great guests. Regards Vanessa and John

Really lovely base for exploring the Peak District. The stars of the show were the chickens next door, and their sensational eggs. Try them on a Derbyshire oatcake from the village shop in Hartington. Don't go for the eggs near the Waterloo Inn, they aren't home made like the ones next door! Do go to the pub though, really nice touch to have a discount coupon on dinner there. Good grub (inc veggie options) and great beer and service as you'd expect for this part of the world.

Response from John:
Hi James, Thanks for your great feedback, the peak district certainly does have great pubs and walks. Pleased you enjoyed your self, thanks for being excellent guests

Welcome to Postcard Cottages, John and I (Vanessa) have taken (slightly) early retirement from our careers in Medical Sales and the Agricultural Supply Trade to live our dream by moving from Leicestershire to the beautiful hills and dales of Derbyshire. We started by coming on short holidays here over many years, just like you are thinking of doing and fell in love with the beautiful rolling green hillside, the limestone walls, numerous sheep, pretty villages and friendly folk. Watch out this area is addictive it could happen to you.
We now have 2 properties, the first we opened in 2015 No3 Club Cottage at Biggin by Hartington is a charming old limestone shepherd end of terrace and it captured our hearts as soon as we saw the stunning rolling views front and back and the safe south facing enclosed gardens. The cottage wood burning stove in the cosy lounge, the spacious kitchen diner with upcycled and renovated furniture makes it a special place to visit and unwind. We then loved the enchanting enclosed wooden staircase and the 2 bedrooms and bathroom with their special views upstairs. We have ensured there is full range of modern facilities for your every comfort and need. We hope you like it as much as we do.
January 2017 sees the opening of “The Old Co-op Barn” Brassington our second property. This has been renovated over 14 weeks during Autumn 2016. The Old Co-op barn is so called because it used to store agricultural items for the old co-op store in the village and has been called the old co-op barn ever since when. We have kept this theme and you will see dustbin lids, potato baskets and ladders used as light fittings, old sacks and picnic blankets for curtains. John even made the whole kitchen out of used pallets which were delivered to site during the renovations and I painted them to look like an old garden potting shed. There are many more surprises to be seen and used such as the double ended bath in the upstairs bedroom. Check it out on our gallery on the web page.
Also, the whole renovation process has been filmed by Channel 4 TV for a new renovation show called Big House Little House to be shown from Feb 17 for 20 weeks 4pm on a Saturday. We hope you like it, it was good fun being filmed and there should be some funny moments, hopefully they will not be too rude about John and I.
