Relax in calm Tuscan forest, only the sounds of birds...a tranquil escape from the city. All modern cons, including wifi and only 25 mins from Siena and an hour to Florence 90 mins by train to Rome.
The house is situated in the medieval hamlet of Palazzo, in the village of Iesa. It was formerly the granary for the large house (15) in the piazza. and was renovated and converted into a house in 2003. The house is set in 6 acres of olive groves with a private paved terrace and garden. The house has a large kitchen dining area, a sitting room and guest bathroom on the ground floor and upstairs there are two large bedrooms each with an en suite bathroom. The house comfortably sleeps 4 adults and in addition there is a sofa bed downstairs.
The house has been finished with handmade terracotta floor tiles, timber beamed ceilings made from local chestnut forests and modern kitchen and bathroom fixtures whilst maintaining a rustic tuscan feel.
The kitchen includes a dishwasher and large stove suitable for the most fastidious chef. There is an open fire in the sitting room, which creates a cosy ambience in winter and serves for char grilling local tuscan fare. Underfloor gas central heating is complemented by solar panels which provide the energy source for the house during the warmer months. A washing machine is installed and Wifi is also available.
The medieval village of Iesa, whose place name of Aisinal, in Latin Aesius, attests to its Etruscan origins, is situated 25 kilometres south of Siena in the beautiful green valley of the Farma River. The Farma river forms the natural border between the provinces of Siena and Grosseto. Iesa consists of six medieval hamlets, one of which is Palazzo, the highest point in the area, at an altitude of some 460 metres.
Palazzo is immersed above ancient forests of chestnut trees and is a welcome retreat from the chaos of the tuscan tourist traps. The uncontaminated environment provides secluded walking and riding tracks through the woods where bird and animal life abound .

I am from Sydney Australia and discovered the wonders of Tuscany whilst studying italian at the University of Siena in 1990. After years of staying with friends whilst visiting I took the plunge and purchased my house there in 2001. I now spend several months a year at my house in Palazzo and when not there I love renting it out and sharing the many discoveries I have made with my visitors. Discovering local festivals, concerts and local food and wine producers has become a passion for me.
