ACTUALLY ON BOIS BLANC ISLAND, MICHIGAN!!
For our Friends & Family, A quaint cabin in the woods on Bois Blanc Island, in the Straits of Mackinac. 125 ft of Lake Huron Beach, 40 wooded acres, full of wildlife. Sleeps 6, bath/shower, washer/dryer, dishes. Available May through November.

The space

Our Cabin in the woods is a typical northern Michigan summer cottage. Very quaint, comfortable, a perfect retreat. One private bedroom with a King Selectric bed and one bunk room with two bunk beds (four singles). The Laundry room also has a day bed for an extra sleeping space. The living room is well appointed with three lounge chairs and a sofa. A full kitchen with large refrigerator/freezer, full size gas stove, cupboard space full with pots, pans, dishes & silverware. Full size claw foot bathtub with shower in a good size bathroom. A family of six or less will be very comfortable and have plenty of their own space.

Guest access

You have a huge yard, cabin, 125 feet of beach on lake Huron, and 40 acres of land to roam on. Most of the Island is public land (state or federal forest), biking, hiking, boating, fishing, birding, or seeking wild flowers, are all favorite past times. Boating, skiing, sailing, pwc, kayaking, & swimming are favorites to those coming to BBI. Four wheelers and dirt bikes are welcome but must follow all of the DNR regulations, the sheriff and DNR officers are very strict about vehicles not on approved trails.

Interaction with guests

Your landlords live across the lane and are May thru November residents and will be available your entire stay to help make your vacation retreat a pleasant one.

Other things to note

Because your on an island there are two things you need to know: 1) you must take a ferry from Cheboygan to get to the island, you can bring your bikes or vehicle (or both), for just passengers and bikes you do not need a reservation but you do need an advanced reservation for your vehicle. Contact Plaunt Transportation in Cheboygan, view their website "bbiferry"; and 2) There is one restaurant (Hawks) that servers good food and alcohol and one bar (Barbs) that serves alcohol and good food, all of your other food & beverages must be brought with you. Gasoline is about $5 at Hawks, so you may want to bring your own.

Tom and Kitty are great hosts - they are super helpful, friendly, and careful not to "intrude". We had a great visit, and look forward to the next stay!

Hosts were very friendly and helpful with picking us up at the dock from our boat and bringing our things to the cabin. They were very communicative and attentive. When WiFi went out due to a storm for instance, it was back on quickly. It is very much an "up north" cabin, nice and quiet, everything you need but not a lot of frills. Lake is across the street and a short walk along a lighted path. You have your own beach as well as a large inflatable raft and access to their canoe. We only had our bikes for the first two days and were able to get around well. Mtn. Biking the island is beautiful.

We had a wonderful stay by Tom and Kitty. They were always available, and brought us to the firework, shared with us their canoe... We enjoyed our private beach which was well equipped. We had nice barbecues and campfire in the garden. We really enjoyed their home which was perfect for our outdoor activities, made of bicycle rides, hikes, swims in a quiet and beautiful landscape, away from the mass tourism. The people on the island are very friendly and we really enjoyed this island life, away from the busy life of the continent. We will definitively recommend this address and this island to our friends. Thanks to Tom and Kitty for this nice stay !

Tom and Kitty were fantastic hosts! Everything was as described, no surprises. Lovely path to the beach, crystal clear water with a majestic view. Full kitchen and laundry made staying here super convenient too. We had an amazing stay, would definitely do again :)

Tom and Kitty are lovely people, very friendly and great hosts. Their cabin has a lot of character as it is a renovated barn. The circle drive is very nice, no tight spots to back out of and they have solar lights marking it which help in locating it in the dark. A rare bonus to this cabin is the large cleared lot where we spotted deer several times just grazing in the yard (the majority of the island is heavily wooded). The cabin is convieniently located near a restraunt, two churches, a bar and the ferry dock. There is beautiful beach access across the street with a picnic table and a mixture of sand and rocks. They also have a small lighthouse they turn on in the evening which gives you a great reference point to return to after watching the sunset via a kayak. This island is one of Michigans best kept secrets with 6 inland lakes and over 20 miles of shoreline. The clear blue water reminds me of the Carribian only without the sharks and salt water. You wont be dissappointed!
