This exquisite house is ideal for a romantic holiday for a couple offering an intimate ground floor space or with its delightful upstairs en suite double bedroom a holiday house for two couples. Set in a beautiful flower garden the house looks across ancient meadows to the river Dronne.
Secluded within the walls of a stone courtyard is a 7x4 metre private swimming pool.
This ancient building has been painstakingly restored to the highest specification and offers a host of visual delights of enormous charm. The 'shabby chic' style is derived from a wonderful mix of vernacular, artistic and retro fittings and artefacts which include a Georgian four poster bed, stained glass windows, huge stone fireplaces and a solid walnut hand crafted kitchen.
On the ground floor are four principle rooms and all but the bathroom, which is tiled, have local marine pine floors.
The centrepiece of this beautiful room is a well equipped kitchen built from locally grown oak and walnut. The ceiling has been removed to reveal the ancient roof structure and 'bulls eye' windows and stained glass has been fitted in the details of the main truss. This has created a wonderful sense of space. There is a magnificent fireplace with a Godin wood burner installed. There is a dining table and chairs with comfortable seating for four people. You will enjoy eating and drinking from a lovely collection of retro chic china and glass.
The adjoining sitting room has satellite TV which provides all the main UK channels, and a DVD player and a gramophone with a collection of vintage vinyl. This room also has a stone fireplace fitted with a Godin wood burner and is comfortably furnished.
Beyond the sitting room is the utility room which contains a washing machine, freezer, utility sink and an additional toilet. An ironing board and iron are to be found here.
BEDROOM 1 AND BATHROOM
The principle bedroom has a magnificent four poster bed which has a lovely view over the garden. The furniture is antique and the walls are hug with original art plus a large Venetian mirror.
It adjoins a massive bathroom which has as a main feature the original timber framing from the 18th century construction. The bathroom has thermostatically controlled underfloor heating, a free-standing bath, toilet and bidet, together with a six foot walk in shower and twin sinks.
BEDROOM 2 AND BATHROOM
Upstairs and completely private from bedroom 1, there is a delightful second bedroom and ensuite bathroom. As can be seen from the photo, the principle features of this room are two beautifully constructed ancient and handcrafted truss beams one of which is filled with stained glass. The second truss divides the room. Beyond it lies the double bed and bathroom - ducking necessary!
The bathroom comprises WC, basin and shower.
Outside the house is a flower garden, with sitting areas and a summer kitchen with barbecue and pizza oven. Beyond that and included in the property, lies a further half acre of enclosed meadow which has been recently planted with trees and soft fruit.
Though very peaceful there is the sound of running water from the mill race on the river and the rustling of leaves in the huge Poplar trees nearby. Trains pass in the distance, but their sound is not intrusive. BIrdlife is a key feature of the garden and the house is called 'Le Loriot' because of the song of the Golden Oriole that can be heard during Spring and Summer. Kingfishers abound on the river and kestrels nest in the next door building.
Between the house and the river is a water meadow which in Spring is carpeted first with Fritillary and then Ragged Robin before being mown for hay.
Smoking is not permitted in the house but is permitted outside where ashtrays are available.
Guests are requested to wear either slippers or soft soles shoes in the house in order to protect the delicate wooden floors.
Please respect our space. This is our dream home and we are happy to share it with those who can appreciate it.
