Perfect place for aurora borealis hunting. The jacuzzi has built in lights just in case the real northern lights are too shy to come out.1 of total 4 bedrooms, all rooms are identical and well soundproof.

The exclusive villa is located near a riverbank at Seglbúðir, with a beautiful view of the landscape and river Grenlækur. In total 4 double bedrooms each incl. private bathroom, shared kitchen, sauna and jacuzzi . All rooms are the same and well soundproof.

The space

In complete peace and serenity, the exclusive villa is located near a riverbank, with a beautiful view of the landscape and the river Grenlækur. Including 4 double bedrooms each incl. private bathroom. All rooms are the same and well soundproof. By the villa is a sauna house and a jacuzzi.

It's a wooden house which gives it a very cozy vibe. At the same time it is very spacious, modern and luxurious.
All in all, the house has a high standard in accordance with the needs of our guests!

Guest access

It is beautifully located within the landscape and perfectly designed for the ultimate experience of Seglbúðir’s magnificent scenery. The facility was built as a fishing retreat so if your clothes get soaked in the rain they will dry off very quickly in the drying room.
Take a walk in the sacred solitude, dip your toes in the river and end the day in the sauna and jacuzzi with an iced drink.

From the living area there is direct access to the terrace, where, if you are lucky, you can watch the aurora borealis dance in the skies during the evening and night. That is of course if you arrive during winter.
During the summer you will most likely see at least one sheep, shy yet curious, strolling around with her two lambs.

Interaction with guests

Check in is at our home, a white house on two floors with a red roof. Take the road from the "Seglbúðir" sign on road 204 and take a left at the postbox marked "Reception"
We will guide you to the lodge from there.
We know the area very well so please don´t hesitate asking us if you need any info about the place or local advise.

Other things to note

We do not serve breakfast nor dinner.
If you're up for cooking we sell lamb directly from us, just let us know at least one day before so we can prepare it.

The next supermarket is at Kirkjubæjarklaustur, 10 km away from us.

We recommend the restaurant at Icelandair Hotel Klaustur at Kirkjubæjarklaustur, we especially recommend their lamb which is prepared at our slaughterhouse here in Seglbúðir. It offers both breakfast and dinner.

This place is amazing. If you're looking for somewhere to stay on the Southern coast of Iceland, I could not recommend it more. The home itself is beautiful, all wood, large, with amazing amenities such as a wrap around deck and hot tub. The scenery is incredible. It is completely surrounded by lava fields and rolling hills, with a stream running through, friendly sheep, and a view of the glacier in the background. It is isolated (in a good way) and on a clear night, the view of the stars cannot be beat. Thorunn and her husband were wonderful. We ordered fresh lamb from them and grilled it at the house and it was delicious. They answered all of my questions and were lovely to interact with.

Country, dreamy, privacy. Oasis in the country.    More than words.  cheep in the front yard, wonderfully equiped including all bedrooms having onsuits which was a wonderful surprise given the size of our party. Purchased farm lamb for dinner and it was amzing. Stay was too short and will return soon. Host was very accommodating given our late arrival.

Great place to stay from start to finish. Directions were good and Erlander took us to the house and showed us around and gave us some info on the area. The house is well equipped and comfortable. The lava field around the cottage is really special and beautiful! We spent an afternoon just walking around the cottage and loved it. Great spot for children to explore - ours picked crowberries (age 10 and 12). Would definitely recommend and hope we can make it back there.

Better than the pictures! Spacious, clean, beautiful views, so relaxing! Grill was available for the delicious lamb (not to be missed!); enjoyed lovely walk in area; hot tub/sauna are fabulous. Our favourite stop in Iceland. Only sad that we couldn't stay longer.

This Villa by the River Bank is an exquisite property! The beautiful house, built by the owner, shows great attention to detail and skilled craftsmanship. The surrounding landscape is truly magical...rolling moss covered hills, amazing rock formations, bubbling streams and a clear river. Incredible vistas greet every day and colorful sunsets paint the ever-light June sky in magical hues. Thorumm was an extraordinarily gracious and accommodating host. We were a family of 3 generations, 9 people, and with the youngest only 18 months, frequent stops were necessary en route to this villa. This postponed our arrival well past what was requested and Thorumm was most kind in understanding our late arrival after we called and explained the circumstances. She greeted us with gracious hospitality and provided us with a thorough welcome and familiarization to her home. The individual bathroom for each bedroom was such a wonderful luxury compared to many other Airbnbs. The house was extraordinarily clean and very well-equipped, including a well-stocked and spacious kitchen. The drying room and laundry room including both a washer and dryer were so helpful to our travels and the hot tub and sauna appreciated by all. We loved the lamb we purchased from Thorumm that we grilled outside and found the dining area and living area more than substantial to accommodate all 9 of us. The house has great warmth and the large windows allow one to fully appreciate the magnificent views. Not too far from the house is a decent grocery store where you can purchase most food you might need and there is a small cafe/restaurant next door to the store where we enjoyed very good fish and chips and pizza one day. There are many incredible natural wonders to explore in this southeastern part of Iceland and the Villa provides a perfect home base for such exploration. I would highly recommend staying at this magical property!

For over 20 years I have been living with my husband at farm Seglbúðir which is a paradise for nature lovers.
We built the villa in the year 2000 and have been welcoming fishermen and tourists to stay there ever since.
On the farm we have around 250 sheep, 20 horses and a small scale slaughterhouse. We also have a small power plant which makes enough electricity to run the farm.
I like taking care of the farm, reading, cross country skiing, spending time with my family and friends and enjoy the nature.
