Guest access

Golden River is the place name from which comes from the lore that tiny deposits of gold were found in the many rivers and springs that run through the region in the central inlier. A winding road weaves through the tiny hamlet of our unpopulated mountain community. Before the road ends our private road begins, winding upward to an elevation of 1200 feet above sea level, covered in dense vegetation. This keeps temperatures cooler and perfect for sleeping comfort.

Interaction with guests

We cater to every need of our guests. Golden River is all about revelling in nature, engaging with our community and remembering to enjoy the simple things in life.... like sipping freshly-squeezed mango juice for breakfast, and watching birds and beautiful parrots or listening to bamboo grow in the forest. Our restaurant is wood fired using ingredients from our local region. Sustainability is first and foremost in all we do. We aim to break down to a zero carbon footprint, creating organic compost for our own farming to harvest colorful, and exotic produce as well as from other local farmers. We also collect and forage ingredients that allow us to offer our customer a new and exciting taste from the bush existing for centuries and a way of cooking within our biodiverse environment that we are grateful for its bounty.

We source all our produce locally, but can also have lots of fun discovering exciting foods at wonderful local markets. Better yet, sign up for one of our personalized cooking classes where one of our chefs brings the traditional Jamaican cuisine straight to you, along with a fun and relaxing way to hone your culinary skills. We have many fruit trees native to Jamaica growing on the property – from guava to pineapple, sweetsop to breadfruit and coconuts with their thirst-quenching water and jelly – it’s a feast for your senses. The gardens on the property are also bursting with a variety of wild herbs – great for seasoning your freshly-caught fish or for brewing up a refreshing pot of herbal tea.
