Century old house, recently fully modernized, in historic lively mountain village with shops, bars and restaurants. Splendid views from the terace, river swimming 3 minutes away and the mediterranean beaches just 25 minutes. Great biking and hiking

The space

We love this house because of its fantastic terrace with great views over the river and the valley including some old watermills. And after carefully renovating the house in 2010 we now have a perfect integration of modern amenities in a historic setting and a balance between comfort and simplicity. Facing outwards from the city center there is no traffic noise –only the river and the birds.
The house (as the village) is build on a steeply sloping cliff - so be prepared for many stairs and steps (not suitable for people with mobility problems).
You enter the house at street level which is also the cellar level (Cantina). One flight of stairs brings you to the large living room where you will notice the vaulted ceilings and white walls found throughout the property and the original historical tiles on the floor.
The ground floor (Cantina) was renovated In 2015 and now include a large bathroom with shower and toilet.
A few steps more and you arrive at the residential section with three bedrooms (new double beds) – The third unique ‘parents' bedroom’ with a window directly on the river. On this level is also a combined small shower and WC
A final flight of stairs brings you to the kitchen and a fourth small single person bedroom. The kitchen is renovated with gas stove, oven, dishwasher and fridge. It is fully equipped with good quality kitchenware. 6-7 people easily dine in the kitchen.
From the kitchen there is direct access to the east and south facing terrace with flowers and sun exposure until late afternoon . A triangular sail will bring shadow when needed and in season pots with aromatic herbs will add flavor to your meals. Tenants are kindly asked to water the pots daily to the benefit of all.
The main square in the village is a 5 minutes walk up and in July and August often animated with local choirs, music bands and events every weekend at the main square with delicious meals served at long tables. Attractive food shops, including several butchers, three bars, an ironmonger and a cheap family style restaurant, and an ice cream bar attracts crowds. Still relatively few tourists, but many locals that are proud of their village –cultural events organized all summer. Refreshing swimming in river water 400 m2 pool 2 minutes walk away from the house (Sometimes this is reduced due to floods - Municipality will clean out stones and sand) . Strolling around the village brings new discoveries and magic of 1000 years of history.

The village is also the point of departure for several hiking trails to San Giovanni (1h 15), Monte Merlo (2h), Badalucco (6 hours -and take bus back)) and 40 minutes by car to Monte Ceppo (1627m) overlooking the whole area. In neighbouring villages you will find a number of interesting restaurants with local produce and regional dishes. Excursions could include the famous Saturday morning market in Sanremo, Or an afternoon at Bussana Vecchia with art and music, Caves and of course Nice at 1h 10.
During winter world class skiing at Limone 2h drive from Ceriana.

Other things to note

This house is rented out in all seasons - However be aware that this type of house can be difficult to heat to normal standards in all rooms during winter and spring. Available heating is a Pellet stove, a mobile gas heating and a small electrical radiator. We would therefore not recommend it during winter/spring months to guest expecting a high comfort temperature indoors, including families with small children or groups larger than 4 -5 persons in that period.

We stayed in Rasmuses apartment for a week from late June to early July. Our family has two adults and three kids (4, 6 and 12). We all enjoyed our stay very much. The apartment was roomy enough for all of us. Inside temperature was easily held to a comfortable level, there was no need to use air conditioning thanks to the thick rock walls. The balcony was absolutely charming with a lovely view, a perfect spot to spend an evening after kids had been put to bed :). The apartment was overall adequately equipped, but disappointingly there were gas and coal but no barbeque. There was also an internet router, but we were unable to establish internet connection through it. On the other hand we didn't start troubleshooting because we had our mobile connections working anyway. Sadly, the apartment was not very well cleaned, but after some cleaning we felt ourselves comfortable. Anyway the apartment offered us a pleasant stay and we loved the atmosphere. Rasmus and his family have done a magnificent job renovating the apartment with modern facilities combined to an authentic atmosphere. Well done! We felt ourselves welcome from the beginning and Rasmuses friendly neighbour Johanna showed us around the village for a start. The river pool nearby was great and so was the village with its restaurants, grocery shops and steep narrow streets. The sea was some 30 minutes away with many beaches to choose from. We can recommend this booking to other families with kids old enough to climb stairs big time :). With a barbeque and better cleaning we would have given five stars.

Response from Rasmus:
I am sorry about the problems experienced - Some other guests who stayed until the day before did not report similar problems with heating or with water so it seems that a sudden electrical problem has arisen. Having said that I think that thise type of houses in general are in risk of being colder and more humid in the winter time than modern houses and I have updated my description accordingly
