This was a great place to stay for the weekend for our large group of 12 adults. Wonderful views from the back porch of the hills and a short drive to Montgomery Redwoods State Preserve, which has some incredible redwood groves. Also, a very short drive to Orr Springs! There is a kitchen with all the necessary amenities to cook group meals, which we were able to take advantage of. I would recommend for any large group looking for a weekend retreat in Mendocino County.

We were 3 families (each with one child, ages 2-3.5) staying in this beautiful home for a long weekend. The house was spacious and beautifully appointed. The big kitchen opens up to a sitting area, which is adjacent to the kitchen table, all opening up to the wrap-around deck, so this is where we spent most of our time. It was nice to have that open floor plan so we could all hang out and keep an eye on the kids, even if we were cooking or cleaning up. The views, stargazing, and sunsets were marvelous. The house sits on a lot of land but the area is quite wild, so kids/adults aren't frolicking off the deck much. However, we did walk around the property on the dirt road one day and visited the awesome vegetable garden on the land. Bedrooms were comfortable. Awesome 4th bedroom w kids' beds. One tip: Bring slippers because, even when it's hot outside, nights can be chilly and most of the floors are cold marble tile. The owner and property keeper were super attentive and responsive. There was lots to do in the area: Orr hot springs 10 minutes away, a beautiful redwood grove just 5 minutes further, awesome playground in Ukiah, wonderful park with picnic areas/playgrounds/trails/creek to swim/wade in nearby. And vineyards and brewery that we didn't even get to. I'd definitely stay here again!!

Tyler's property is perfect for a secluded stay away from the bustle of city and modern life. The property is amazing to look at and explore. The trees... oh, the trees! It's magical and serene. Perfect for a much needed reset. I came here for a family vacation with my immediate family and my extended family from overseas--it was a perfect Northern California experience for all. The off the grid style is not as intimidating as some of the other reviews may make it seem--it just makes you more mindful of the utilities that we take for granted in modern life. Tyler and the others that share the property are very accommodating and work reasonably with you. I would definitely recommend this place to other airbnb users. *One thing to note is to have all wheel drive or four wheel drive if you are arriving during rainy days. Mind the address that is given for the entrance gate, not the property, and make sure to note the directions given after entering the property--the actual house is located a little over a mile through gravel roads and hills.

This is certainly a great place with breathtaking views and serenity. I would definitely recommend this place to those who are truly looking for a "retreat" as the description states and to enjoy it in the spring or fall. However, there were a few things that we weren't prepared for that either seemed to be left out of the descriptions or just were not easily noticed. Like, no TV's. I'm certainly not one to overdose on TV needs, however, we did not notice that there were none, and for our family christmas stay with children it was a bit tough to not watch some christmas classics and/or keep the kids occupied. Also, I don't think it was widely stated that this place was "off the grid" when we booked several months ago. This would have been nice to know, but I don't think it would have deterred us from booking. Please note, due to being off-the-grid, this house does not have ample solar and runs on a generator as back up. I would not suggest booking in the cold months because we lost power every single night due to the need to have heat running constantly. I'm sure our constant cooking and use of the house in general didn't help that, but since we paid to be there, we weren't going to let that stop us from our traditions. At almost all times it was quite cold in the house with or without heat on (w/o when the electric went out every night). There was a nice sized living room, the only room that could comfortably fit our whole family to enjoy each other since there were no TV's, but it was the coldest room in the house. There is a wood burning fireplace in the living room, but there was no wood provided, so we had to all pile into the kitchen/family room where there is a gas fireplace although it was cramped. A bit disappointing considering there is probably good free wood all over the property, but we didn't have the tools or the time to deal with it. These things really made the time at this place not as good as it could have been for our family, but I don't want that to take away from how good the place actually is. I've noticed that the descriptions have been updated based on a few other comments left from prior guests, unfortunately this was after we booked. I hope that this feedback assists as well. Despite my comments above, please note that I would definitely recommend this place.

We rented out Tyler's space for friends who were in town for a birthday party, so we didn't stay there ourselves. Our friends raved about the view and how beautiful the house was. Tyler and the groundskeepers were very communicative throughout. If your plan is to go up early in the day (before sunset) and stay at the house and the nearby area throughout your visit, I would highly recommend the spot. Our guests unfortunately weren't able to coordinate arriving before sunset due to work contstraints, but Tyler and his team did their best to help us in spite of that. The area is beautiful and calm, perfect for a retreat, and communication was great.

Wow. Tyler's house was beautiful! The wrap around deck was perfect, especially the back deck with that amazing view! We had breakfast every morning just staring at that view. Kitchen came fully stocked, bed rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. If you're looking for a beautiful and relaxing stay in a home that has a view from every angle, this is it.
