Beautiful house set back from one of the lovely lakes on the Janson Coffee Plantation just outside of Volcan. Secluded (though next to the owner's house), peaceful, with miles of walks available through the plantation, not to mention the ability to learn about coffee cultivation and processing. Best to bring in your own food and stay there. Emily, who manages the property, is a delight, and very helpful with any information one might need.

We loved our stay here. The house is absolutely gorgeous with beautiful hard woods everywhere. Nice kitchen, comfy bed and couches. Lots of windows to view the beautiful landscaping. Definitely recommend a car with clearance to get here. We rented a cheap s.u.v. that definitely did not have enough. We scraped the bottom several times. They let us use the kayaks to paddle around the lakes and we hiked on their trails. We were greated at the main office, where Emily met us to escort us out to the casita. She left a bottle of wine for us and two bags of Janson Family Coffee. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The real jewel of this location is Emily! She knows her customer service! We requested a tour and tasting with her. She was able to answer so many of our questions, always wanting to make sure we had everything we needed - food, sodas, water, whatever. The tour was incredible and took us through to see all the equipment in action (they were harvesting while we were there). Next we went to see the nursery. She told us all about the family history. We left with a lot of respect for the Janson family! The final part was the coffee tasting. We tasted the regular Janson Family Coffee, the washed Geisha Coffee, the natural Geisha coffee and the tea they make from the coffee skins. WOW! We've never tasted any coffee so incredible. Thanks for a great experience! -- oh yeah, Emily had also put together a very informative book with information about the rental and the area.

Everything about this location is perfect. From early morning coffees enjoyed on the dock at the lake with views of the volcano, to hiking around the coffee plantation-you couldn't ask for a better location or hosts. Take advantage of the tours offered. We took a coffee tour followed by a tasting and it was superb! A definite recommend.

The lake house is a great secluded house with lots of amenities. There are so many things available for use. This is a fantastic place for an extended stay 5-10 days or more. The coffee farm is fantastic. All the hosts are friendly and go out of their way to insure the comfort of all guests. A lot to see on the farm....Plan for lots of time to relax on the lake and your own patio. Town of Volcan is only about a 10 minute drive We are already planning our return trip to this lake house

It was a privilege to stay at the Lake House adjacent to the Janson Coffee Farm founder's house on their secluded private lake in the native Chiriqui Highlands forest. Every comfort in total serenity in the very heart of nature's garden. Lake view, gardens, spa, kayaking, swimming; everything you could want with hosts that are like instant family. Emily, our hostess, was so informative and helpful with our questions about the accommodations and the surrounding area. I have stayed in commercial hotels in the area on past trips when traveling with business associates; never again. I will stay at the Lake House and can't wait to return with my family. We will be back(URL HIDDEN)

The Casita is amazing, such a beautiful spot, very relaxing and having the lake right in front of you is incredible - woke up every morning and went for a swim. It feels very secluded and private and being able to walk in the surrounding coffee plantations and around the lakes is lovely. Can't say enough to recommend Emily, Lief and everyone at the Janson Coffee farm, they made us feel so welcome. We knew from the beginning we would be in for a great stay as Emily was quick to communicate, let us know what activities we could enjoy during the stay and gave us all the details on how to get there. When we arrived both Emily and Leif gave us a warm welcome and Emily ran through everything we needed to know about staying on the farm, providing maps to show us local walks. What made it really special was that the Casita had been decorated beautifully for Christmas, including a christmas tree and lots of fairy lights, plus wine, coffee and fresh home made cookies! We enjoyed a great morning fishing with Leif and hearing all about the family and farm history, even if our fishing skills weren't up to much. Then that afternoon we learnt a huge amount about coffee on the Geisha tour with Emily - would highly recommend it. All in all, we had a great stay, loved the location and the hosts made it a really special trip - we will definitely be back to explore more of the area and stay again. Thanks Emily, Leif and team!

What a pleasant surprise. This place exceeded all expectations. The casita is set back from the main house amidst a beautiful tropical garden setting with excellent views of the lake. It is a central location for viewing the Volcan area and is connected to Bouquete by a first-class sealed road, about one hour travelling time. Be advised that the Volcan area has cool temperatures all year round and you will need some warm clothing for the evenings. The casita is very well set up. It can accommodate up to 6 people. The kitchen is well equipped if you want to cook your own meals. There are good restaurants in Volcan town, about 3kms away. You can relax on the verandah which has a couple of hammocks and a table and chairs. Good bush walking and bird watching trails in the immediate area. The personal touch by the host of fresh fruit, a lovely bottle of wine, beers, bread, milk and good coffee were an added bonus. Don Calle was an excellent host and invited us to a delightful lunch on his expansive verandah. Access to the casita is by an all weather but rough road and low clearance vehicles are not recommended but does not require 4-wheel drive. Highly recommended.
