The space

My guest room is a lovely airy room with lots of light, and double glazed for warmth. Queen sized bed with high quality bed linens and plentiful supply of quality towels. Huge wardrobe to hang your clothes and put your luggage away. Room also has a small desk or dressing table, chair, loads of plug points for your laptop or hair dryer, mirrors (including a full-length one) and bedside lamps.

This is a room in my apartment which is brand new, and beautifully furnished. The apartment is on the ground floor (so no stairs to negotiate with your heavy luggage), and is in a complex of only seven other apartments. The complex is gated and safe, and all residents are very quiet and respectful.

Other facilities include a beautiful tiled bathroom (shared) with walk-in shower (fantastic pressure), comfortable lounge/dining area, large flat-screen TV, unlimited wifi, laundry (washing powder provided). There is also a lovely sunny courtyard garden with outdoor seating and dining areas, plus barbeque which you are welcome to use as much as you like.

Self-serve continental breakfast is included with an offering of home-made muesli, seasonal fruits (fresh or poached), home-made or artisan bread (sometimes muffins too) and good selection of home-made jams and spreads, plus tea and espresso coffee.

Guest access

Full access to - laundry, bathroom, lounge/dining, courtyard, barbeque.
The kitchen is not available for guest use; however, you are welcome to cook outside on the barbeque.

Interaction with guests

I mostly work from home, so I will usually be here to greet you when you arrive and farewell you when you leave. I'm also available to give you helpful advice about things to see and do, places to eat and shop, etc. - please don't hesitate to ask.

The neighbourhood

Despite the fact that Christchurch was just about flattened by an earthquake in February 2011, there is a lot happening around the city now which is very exciting, and so much of it is right on my doorstep.

Within 1 block:
Piko Wholefoods - for the health conscious, stock a huge variety of whole foods, grains, nuts, fresh vegetables, even organic wines
The Herb Centre Clinic, Dispensary & Cafe - naturopathic and homeopathic services, massage, nutritionists - also hosts a great cafe (mostly, but not exclusively, vegetarian) which serves excellent coffee
Pomeroys Brewery & Tavern (in short the neighbourhood local)
Little Pom's - our cosy neighbourhood cafe (great for morning tea, afternoon tea, or lunch)
Pack a picnic and take a walk along the Avon

Less than 10 minutes walk:
Beat Street Cafe - off-beat, hippy-chic cafe, serving great coffee and breakfasts (vegan & gluten-free options available)
New Regent Street - arguably New Zealand's most beautiful street, lovingly restored Spanish Mission style buildings - enjoy some boutique shopping or sit on the sidewalk at any one of the numerous cafes and watch the vintage trams go by
Isaac Theatre Royal - spectacularly restored after the earthquake, this beautiful theatre hosts some wonderful productions - from opera to comedy, musicals to the ballet, and more
Take a tram ride - a great way of seeing and getting around the city

15/20 minutes walk
Cathedral Square
ReStart Mall

A few minutes more and you could find yourself enjoying
Christchurch Art Gallery
The Arts Centre
Botanical Gardens
Hagley Park
Punting or boating on the Avon

Closest supermarket is a little bit of a hike, or a bus ride away, but I do go to the supermarket most days and I am always happy to take you along to get supplies or pick up anything that you require.

Getting around

Parking is on-street right outside if you are arriving and getting around by car.

If you are arriving by plane, you can get here by taxi, though that will most likely set you back in the vicinity of $50. Alternatively I offer a 24 hour pick-up and drop-off service to the airport - daytime rate between 9am & 10pm is $25, nighttime rate between 10pm & 9am is $35. The other alternative is taking the airport bus which stops just 3 blocks from my home.

For getting around the city once you are here. There are lots of bus stops within 2 or 3 blocks which service different areas of the city and all bus routes connect through the central bus exchange.

Other things to note

There is ample on-street parking, right at the door, if you are travelling by car.

It is usually pretty quiet around here at night, and if you sleep with windows closed the double glazing will ensure you hear very little noise if any. This is the city, however, and there can be noise on occasion - if you are a very light sleeper and prefer to sleep with the windows open (perfectly safe to do so), then please don't hesitate to ask for ear plugs.

We enjoyed our short stay at Sue's place. Located within walking distance to many great Christchurch sights and restaurants it is a great place to base a quick trip of the city. Sue's place was new, clean and comfortable and breakfast was great too! Sue's was lovely as was her communication throughout the process. Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our stay at Sue's stunning home. It's a tastefully decorated, ground floor apartment with a gorgeous shared shower room. We had a delicious breakfast before leaving and loved chatting to Sue and getting tips for our next steps through New Zealand.

Sues place was exactly as described. It's a beautiful apartment with very chic decor very close to the city. She even provides a homemade breakfast which is a real bonus and set us up for the day. We had lovely chats with Sue who gave us lots of information on Christchurch. The only downside was that we had to leave!

Sue User ProfileSue is a superhost.

I am a quiet, easy-going person with a passion for food, travel, yoga and photography.

I love to cook and eat, and enjoy all the wonderful food experiences and discoveries that I make on my travels. I also write a food blog which you can find here: (URL HIDDEN)

My daily yoga and meditation practices are very important to me. I used to teach yoga, having owned my own yoga school in Christchurch, which unfortunately met its demise during the big earthquake in February 2011.

I love to travel, love good movies, and in recent years have developed an interest in photography, though haven't really had the time to explore that and learn as much as I would like to.
