Rowhedge is a pretty riverside village, just 15 minutes drive from Colchester and Essex University, 40 minutes from Harwich. Woodbine House is located on a quiet street, with plenty of lovely walks through the woods or by the two rivers on your doorstep.
Woodbine House is one of a pair of semi detached Edwardian cottages. Kim and Andrew live in the adjoining house. There is a door that links the two houses, but guests staying at Woodbine House have complete privacy as this will be locked during your stay. The property includes all three bedrooms, (one of which is accessed through another bedroom), living room with a sofa bed, TV and woodburning stove, kitchen and newly installed downstairs shower room and WC. There is also an outdoor patio area to which guests have access.
The front room of Woodbine House is used as an office by Kim and Andrew. This area is not accessible to guests. If Kim and Andrew are at home the garden area beyond the espalier apple tree and cream shed is not available to guests.
Interaction with guests
Kim and Andrew, the owners, live in the adjoining property. They are happy to be available to answer questions or sort out any problems. If they are at home they can make their washing machine available for you to use. We provide tea coffee and milk as well as the wherewithal for Breakfast (cereals, bagels and home made jam).
Other things to note
When there are no guests KIm, Andrew and their family use the property as part of their home. There are some personal items in the house, books, pictures etc. Feel free to browse, but please treat personal items with respect.
The two properties share a garden. You are welcome to use the small courtyard garden behind Woodbine House.
A point to note for guests with mobility issues: the house is Edwardian and has a steeper staircase than in more modern homes.
Kim and Andrew own two cats, Alasdair and Ruby. When there are no guests the cats have access to both houses. We will obviously ensure that they stay next door during your stay, but as the garden is shared they may well make themselves known to you.
We ask that guests do not smoke in the house.
We expect that guests leave the house clean and tidy on their departure.
Parkfield Street is a friendly but quiet residential street. We expect guests to behave accordingly.
Kim and I have lived in our current home in Rowhedge for 26 years. Our 4 daughters all grew up here and enjoy coming home which is partly why when when the house next door came up for sale, we bought it. We also have two grandsons who come and play in the garden and woods which back onto our home.
. Both Kim and I are semi retired teachers. I am also an artist and draw and paint the Essex estuary landscape around our home. Kim practises yoga and I practise tai chi. The whole family loves cooking and enjoying noisy meals together! All of us have travelled widely and enjoy visiting new places and meeting new people.
