About this listing

On the 3rd floor of historical and central palace, outstanding Apt, spacious, bright and quiet, with spectacular view high above the city. Perfect to live and to visit Prato, as well to easily reach Florence by train and other Tuscan art cities

The space

Apartment "Giuliano da Sangallo" is located in the heart of the historical centre of Prato, in an ancient palace on the 3rd floor, this outstanding apartment offers spectacular views across the rooftops of the city to the surrounding hills, including sights of some of the major monuments: the Duomo, Santa Maria delle Carceri. Great restaurants, good shopping and all amenities are closeby, including one of the two Prato train stations (Porta al Serraglio). The apartment is distinguished by its spacious interior, peace and quiet; staying here promises you the ability to work and relax in peace.
Legend has it that Giuliano da Sangallo ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)), the great Renaissance architect and a favourite of Lorenzo de’ Medici (il Magnifico), lived in this palace between 1486 and 1492, while he managed, at the request of Medici, the building of the Church of Santa Maria delle Carceri. Some proof of these claims can be read in the most recent city guide – Claudio Cerretelli’s, Prato e la sua provincia, (Florence, Giunti 2003, p57): The interior boats two flights of an elegant Renaissance staircase with a balustrade parapet in the Sangallo style”. So, it is quite likely that the staircase was designed and built by Giuliano to enhance his residence! It is easy to imagine that this famous architect spent many a bright day and moonlit night gazing upon the famous cupola (dome) and lantern of the Carceri from the windows of this well-loved apartment.

Guest access

The entire apartment is at the guests’ disposition.

Interaction with guests

We will meet you when you arrive and, because we are from Prato, we will be able to help you with an abundance of local knowledge and information.

Other things to note

The apartment is on the third floor, and be warned, there is no lift! It was our family home until recently and still houses my (librarian-) husband’s precious book collection.

Stefano was an excellent host. When we first arrived he walked us around the city pointing out shops, restaurants, train stations, etc... He was great. We had a small problem with the internet, but he sorted out it quickly. I would highly recommend this apartment.

Response from Antonella:
Dear Rachel, Mark and Bill, it's been very easy for me to help you because you've been so perfect guests: smiling, perfectly clean, in a good mood and patient while I tried to solve the wifi problem. And, mostly, thank you because you have appreciated so much my city: Prato is very beautiful in my eyes, it has many hidden treasures, but it is not what we may call a famous touristic place. Well, you've discovered in few days some of these treasures!

The listing does not do this amazing place justice! It's incredibly spacious, and such a nice place to spend time. It's right in the middle of the best part of town, with heaps of things to do just minutes away, and then there's the nearby train station to go to Florence. Our hosts were wonderful, and helped give us local insight in to places to go, both in Prato and Florence. The attention to detail was such a nice touch, the olive oil from their own trees, a perfectly spotless apartment etc. My only regret is that we didn't have more time to spend here.
