About this listing
Enjoy a totally off-grid experience at Sva's Hut, a private cabin nestled in native bush and overlooking Woodpecker Bay. This charming retreat boasts spectacular ocean views, and with a sheltered outdoor kitchen and shower you will be able to enjoy them to the max. Spend your evenings listening to the waves while the sun sets. Great place to relax and unwind, with no interruptions from the outside world.
Sva's Hut is nestled into the bush on one side providing great shelter for you to cook, shower and relax in the outdoor space. Even in torrential rain we have enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the weather explode around us. The hut is warmed by the afternoon sun and is often very toasty when you head in for bed. Sva's has a lovely comfy bed – with new mattress – that is elevated to make sure you are never missing that ocean view! A short walk down the driveway and you are on one of the most beautiful West Coast beaches.
The driveway is reasonably steep, the parking area is confined but flat and next to the cabin. You will need to reverse back down the driveway, or ask your host to help. You can walk up and down the driveway with moderate fitness.
Interaction with guests
Jed will take you to your cabin and show you around. Point out all you need to know and can help with local info. Jed stays next door at the Glassworks and is happy to drop off frozen slickers for your ice box each day if required.
Other things to note
Water: We have unfiltered, untreated spring water that we are very happy to drink. There is no farm land etc between the spring and the tap so the water should be very pure. It sometimes has a bit of natural sediment if there has been a lot of rain, let it sit for a while if this bothers you. If you are worried, you can bring drinking water with you, or boil the tap water on the gas burner. Hot water is provided by a gas califont to the kitchen sink and the outdoor shower.
Power: We are running on a small solar set-up. Solar lights and Dynamo lanterns are provided, Jed will show you where to charge them during the day.
Cooking is done on a BBQ with a side burner. Its fully equipped with pots & pans, cutlery & crockery, chopping boards and sharp knives, coffee plunger, garlic crusher, potato peeler & masher etc... Chilly Bins and Ice Packs available.
Extra beds: There is a single futon bed and a small camping area available on the front lawn. There is a surcharge of $30 for each extra person, per night. There may also be a sleep out available for extra guests upon request.
Sandflies: As with any West Coast adventure and you have probably already come across these glam-pires. Most annoying at dusk, then they go to bed. Some people react to their bite, it is advised you try not to scratch and the itch will go away. Kawa kawa leaves rubbed on a bite will also relieve the itch. We have become used to putting on long sleeves, long pants and socks at dusk each day.
Surfing: Fox River is a left hand point break on a mostly sandy beach off the rocks at the Fox River mouth. The wave breaks over the rocks at the southern end of the beach, then peels across the beach. Its a long, wally wave with several sections to play with. You can go through the cave across the river in the side of the point and come out the end of the point to paddle out behind the rocks. Good for surfers of all levels. River mouths often have strong currents and rips, so watch out. Wave Type: Left point, Wave Size Min: 1.5ft,
Wave Shape: Wally/Powerful/Long, Optimal Swell Direction: SW, Optimal Wind Direction: E, Tide: Low/Mid, Beach Type: Sand/Stones/Rock, Skill Level: Beginner.
