Amenities

Description

The space

Nestled far enough above the road that you don't hear traffic and surrounded in native forest, sit on the covered deck and listen to the waves or watch the surfers in the bay while the sun sets. Great place to relax and unwind, with no interruptions from the outside world as it's totally off the grid. Everything you need is waiting for you.

Guest access

The driveway is steep, the parking area is confined but flat and next to the cabin. You will need to reverse back down the driveway, or ask your host to help. You can walk up and down the driveway with moderate fitness.

Interaction with guests

One of your hosts will take you to your cabin and show you around. Point out all you need to know and can help with local info. Once you are settled in, your host can be found at the Glassworks or will arrange a time to drop off frozen slickers for your ice box each day if required.

The neighbourhood

The Punakaiki to Fox River drive is one of the most stunning stretches of coastline you will see anywhere in the world. Weither you are into fishing, surfing, beach walking, hiking one of the many tracks, taking the kids to see the Pancake Rocks Blow Holes or maybe you want to lull around in a river swimming hole, check out the Fox River Summer Sunday Markets or find a nice secluded beach for a picnic or just sit on the sandy beach and watch a magical sunset. So much to do here and most of it does not cost a cent.

Getting around

Cellphone coverage ends at Punakaiki (10mins) to the south and Charleston (15mins) to the north and our closest larger towns Greymouth (45mins) to the south and Westport (35mins) to the north. The Intercity bus will drop you off at the Market Place if you don't have transport. The famous Trans-Alpine train travels between Christchurch and Greymouth daily also, we can arrange transport to Fox River if needed.

Other things to note

Sandflies... As with any West Coast adventure and you have probably already come across these glam-pires. Most annoying at dusk, then they go to bed. Some people react to their bite, it is advised you try not to scratch and the itch will go away. Kawa kawa leaves rubbed on a bite will also releive the itch.
Water... We have unfiltered, untreated water but recommend bringing drinking water with you. Boiled water is fine. Hot water is provided by a gas califont to the kitchen sink and the outdoor shower.
Light... Solar lights and Dynamo lanterns are provided, Jed will show you where to charge them during the day.
located on a covered deck and cooking is done on a BBQ with a side burner. Its fully equipped, pots & pans, cutlery & crockery, chopping boards and sharp knives, coffee plunger, garlic crusher, potato peeler & masher etc... Chilly Bins and Ice Packs available.
Extra bed...there is a single futon bed and a small camping area available on the front lawn. There is a surcharge of $30 for each extra person, per night.

Fabulous location! Just had a wonderful EASTER, off grid and so peaceful with the most amazing west coast warm weather! Sva's place is tidy, clean & embedded in beautiful nature. Definitely recommend! The sound of the ocean day and night meant we slept very soundly!

This is a really special little spot - falling asleep to the roar of the sea and looking up at the brightest stars was a highlight of our trip to New Zealand. It's a humble but characterful and well-equipped little hut. Thanks to Jed for coming to help us get settled even though we arrived quite late at night.

Sva's place was wonderful! It was easy to check-in with Jed & the place was unreal in the best way. Quiet, relaxing, in-touch with nature, and great views. Would recommend staying here to anybody.

My husband and I booked Air BnB's all over New Zealand for our two week trip here and Sva's Place was the one we were most looking forward to. This place was even better than we could've imagined - the coastal views during the drive to the place were outstanding, the views from the patio were gorgeous, and the sound of the ocean from the bed was the cherry on top. We loved the outdoor shower and outdoor kitchen and enjoyed eating our dinner and drinking wine with a perfect view of the ocean sunset. Jed was super responsive and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!
