Mid-century design with character and style, sitting on 6 acres in the hills of Montecito. Incredible panoramic ocean and mountain views from the picture windows, deck, bedrooms and gardens. Great for nature lovers and those seeking a retreat!

The space

Our home was built in 1959, and is all original and very charming. The views of the Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands are incredible! Think Big Sur, but without the remoteness, as downtown Santa Barbara is only 15 minutes away. The redwood siding and woody interior give it a cabin-like feel, and the views from every window are green with trees and foliage and blue with expansive ocean and skies. The design of the house and furnishings reflect the architectural aesthetics of the mid-century modern period in which it was built. If you are looking for an ultra-modern kitchen and bath, our house may not be for you, given that it was built in the mid-20th century. But if you are looking for an analog experience, come visit our tranquil canyon!
Our home is a great place to relax and unwind while taking in the beautiful view from the hammock or from a chaise lounge on the deck. We love to bring fresh vegetables from the garden for guests, just let us know if that is something you are interested in. The house is stocked with fresh oranges (and juicer) and avocados most of the year. California dreaming at its best.
We envision and treat our home as a retreat-- a place to read and write and paint, play the piano, enjoy the gardens, or lie in the hammock and stare at the ocean-- and hope for guests to do the same. Our home is not available as a party site rental, rather a place to experience the tranquility of our natural surroundings here. It is a perfect place for those looking to explore the endless hiking and mountain biking trails in our backyard, visiting the local beaches, or going for a day trip to the wine country. When you are here, you feel like you are tucked into a mountain retreat, but with access to the beautiful towns of Montecito and Santa Barbara at your fingertips.

Guest access

When renting our home, guests have access to all interior and most exterior space on our 6 acre property. This includes 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living and dining room, kitchen, den/library/t.v. room, deck, vegetable garden and sitting gardens. Laundry will be made available to guests for weekly stays.

Interaction with guests

Our house sits on 6 acres and, while rented, we stay in an Airstream trailer that is situated in a fenced, separate area so that guests have total privacy while staying in our house.
We can be on site to greet guests and to answer any questions or give recommendations, or we can be invisible if that is what the guest prefers.

Other things to note

There is an outdoor cat who lives on the property and we also have a dog, both are friendly.

We see our home as a retreat space, a getaway from busy city life, a place to read, write, stretch, hike, or relax. We welcome families but it is not a place for very young kids as it is not child proofed in any way, inside or out. We love and respect our home and expect that our guests would do the same. Our home is not for those seeking to host other guests, have a party or an any otherwise riotous occasion. Please allow 2 days prior to your requested booking date, as we cannot accommodate very last minute inquiries. It is difficult for us when a party cancels at the last minute so we have set our cancellation policy as strict on Airbnb, but please note that if for some reason a guest has to cancel their trip we will try to accommodate them by honoring their stay at a future time that works for all involved. 3 night minimum on holiday weekends. We have a serious policy of No Smoking, No Candles and No Fires of any kind on the entire property as we have an extended fire season in Santa Barbara, especially with the current drought.

The view from Mark's house is spectacular. One of the best views I've seen in the area. The house is very roomy and comfortable. We actually felt very spread out. Mark left us a bottle of wine and a coupe of bowls full of super sweet oranges from the garden. We did not see Mark while we were there, but the communication was easy. The weather was unusually hot for October (mid 80's) and the house did get a bit hot during the day, but cooled off nicely at night. As Mark says in his description, this is a very rustic house, more cabin like with wood paneling. We loved it, but it might not be for everyone.

Mark's house is awsome. We spent three beautiful days. The house is very confortable, with an amazing view. The check-in was very simple. Mark left some oranges for juice that were delicious. The only thing that were have to mention is that during our stay we had an unusual hot weather in Montecito and the house had only one fan available. Nights were quite hot and rest was difficult for our baby and a pregnant lady without an extra fan. We undestand that it was an unusual situation but another fan could help in these cases. Overall, we would definitely recommend Mark's house!

Spacious home with a wonderful view. The outdoor spaces - from the deck to the multiple sitting areas in the garden - were a pleasant surprise.

What a fantastic spot! Great space for family, and my kids spent a part of each day exploring the gorgeous outdoor grounds. The view from the porch is breathtaking. The house itself has a cool mid-century vibe and while very nicely appointed is also comfortable and welcoming. Mark, the owner, was responsive to texts and seems like a super nice guy. We would absolutely stay again!

Spacious, comfortable home with wonderful outdoor spaces and a great view of the ocean in the distance. On a quiet street up in the hills--very private, in an area of exclusive residences. Our family of four adults enjoyed cooking in the well-equipped kitchen and dining under the stars. (It's away from the lights of the city so the star-gazing is spectacular.) We appreciated the fresh juice oranges and the local wine that we found upon arrival. We'd love to come back!

The house is classic mid-century style (with a little love of nature thrown in), the deck overlooks the ocean, and the gardens are beautiful. We had a wonderful time at this location.

Hi there!
We are landscape artists and avid vegetable gardeners. We have worked for many years on the meandering paths and gardens here on our property. We feel fortunate every day to live in such a beautiful place, and look forward to sharing that beauty with guests who come to stay here!
