The Hobbit Hole is a cozy, comfortable sculpture to live in during a memorable visit to Portland. It's a quiet and beautiful oasis that's steps from one of the best shopping, eating, and people watching streets in the whole city.

We are around the corner from an organic grocery store, iconic restaurants, shopping, bike share programs and entertainment on perfectly Portland Hawthorne and Division streets. This is a walking, biking, and transit paradise with easy curbside parking.

The space

"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole ... it was a hobbit-hole and that meant comfort."

This handcrafted, sustainable Hobbit Hole is a unique and inspiring place to call home in Portland! Inspired by the Lord of the Rings, our earthen home provides insulation, sound barrier and loads of charm. We painstakingly reclaimed the clay produced from the excavation for our precious Hobbit Hole and turned that into the tree roots that form the ceiling.

Reclaimed and sustainable materials are throughout the space including a beautiful arched former church door located near the kitchenette. Local artisan friends poured their hearts into the cabinetry and woodwork. We want this to be the most memorable Airbnb experience you've ever had!

Guest access

Adventurous travelers will have access to the entire 470sqft Hobbit Hole.

Our listing is managed by Turnkeyed, a local, short-term rental company who will make every effort to ensure your stay in Portland is comfortable. If we aren't available ourselves to help with anything you might need, Turnkeyed always will be via the Airbnb app or phone/text.

Greg and Beth's Hobbit hole is cozy, yet well lit and private. Their communication was above and beyond as my keys had slipped out of my shorts pocket just before leaving. The cleaning staff found it and I was able to retrieve it before they had completed turning the unit over! I 100% recommend staying here because it's close to everything, in a cool neighborhood, and they were great hosts.

Greg and Beth are awesome hosts if you get a chance to meet them. When I first arrived I was skeptical about some of the other reviews I read. It didn't take long to be convinced that the Hobbit Hole is indeed a magical place. Pictures and descriptions can't do it justice. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in this labor of love adds to the ambiance. The neighborhood is right where you want to be, Greg and Beth can help navigate you through the infinite, amazing options for food and entertainment. The experience was amazing and I cannot wait to return.

Staying here was great as it allowed us to visit the city easily by public transport as well as the really interesting, more immediate locality which we might well have missed otherwise. Greg and Beth took time to meet up with us and share their insights (and beers!). The Hobbit Hole was everything we hoped it would be - high quality accommodation as well as creatively inspiring. Thoroughly recommended :-)
