We are within easy walking distance of all the main museums, galleries and historic sites, as well as most Festival and Fringe venues. The area is packed with opportunities to eat and enjoy yourself.

We hope to offer guests a speial but domestic atmosphere surrounded by the very special aura of the house, set off by its original features. Cultural and other tips are our speciality!

Our German style breakfast, with home made jams and bread will set you up well for a day taking in the sights.

I've been very fortunate to stay in some cool places, but this one takes the cake. You'll feel like you stepped back in time in this amazing Georgian era home. John and his family were amazing hosts, welcoming me in late and bringing me a fresh pot of tea to my room. The room itself is full of curiosities and antiques, and the bed is so comfortable I had to force myself up in the morning. John provided a feast for breakfast, and along with 2 of his kids were excellent company during the meal for me and his two other guests. One thing to note, and another reviewer said the same, there is only a gigantic bathtub, but no shower. This was a delightful treat for my one night stay. So glad I got to stay here, it was a highlight of my trip!

I was completely charmed by my one-night stay in Felicitas and John’s home. On an elegant street in the New Town, it’s perfectly situated for exploring the city. The hosts were warm and gracious, communication around my last-minute booking was clear and efficient, and the house itself was a marvel. As other reviews have mentioned, this was the family home of author Robert Louis Stevenson (a web search for "Stevenson House Edinburgh" turns up more information). Anywhere the eye wandered, there was something fascinating to look at -- paintings, family photos through the years, books by Stevenson and contemporaries, original architectural details, antique furnishings. My room was enormous and comfortable. My only quibble about the facilities: The double room's en-suite bath didn't appear to have a shower, only the massive bathtub John referred to as “the pool,” which was completely sufficient for me after a long day of wandering around the city. If I had stayed longer than one night, I may have been more inconvenienced (it may also have just be my own ignorance of Georgian plumbing technology, since I didn’t raise the issue with the hosts).

Perfect location with adequate amenities. Walkable distance to all attractions and shopping belt. This is a family house and staying with Felicitas and family meant that we had many interesting breakfast conversations with them. Breakfast was provided daily and included amazing homemade bread and jam. It was overall a very unique experience and we couldn't ask for more - Felicitas and family were wonderful hosts and we are already planning a return trip to Edinburgh!

It was a such a lovely surprise to find out we were staying in the home of Robert Louis Stevenson! We received a warm welcome from young Felix and housekeeper Gabi and enjoyed some excellent and far ranging conversation over tea and biscuits. The stunning Georgian house is a treasure trove of paintings and antiques in an excellent location but very quiet considering it is in the centre of the New Town. The continental style breakfast was really good and we particularly enjoyed the homemade preserves and fruit from the allotment - all beautifully presented. Thank you!

Our stay at the Stevenson House was superb! We enjoyed Felicitas´s and John´s exceptional hospitality in their picturesque home and the delicious homemade jams for breakfast. Couldn't have been happier with our stay at Heriot Row.

Couldn't have been happier with our stay - delightful and truly hospitable family that provided everything we needed and more, making our Hogmanay New Year extra special. Our room had an enormous en suite which was a surprising bonus...loved all the original features and the German breakfast was amazing!! Homemade breads, chutneys, jams along with everything else meant I could fill up ready for a full day exploring. Thank you Felicitas! Wouldn't hesitate to return and would recommend to anyone!
