The owner, Mr Nissanka Epaliyana, is a wonderful, distinguished gentleman who goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and to assist you. His home is magnificent. It is located a short walk inland from the main beach and is surrounded by a beautifully manicured garden with large trees so it is very peaceful and quiet. The house is immaculate, beautifully furnished and extremely spacious and well looked after.
Nissanka met us on our arrival. He knew that good internet access was important to us because my daughter and I needed to do work, and he provided us with an additional router. Nissanka's beautiful home was just a short walk from great restaurants, the beach, and lots of shops. His home was spacious, scenic, and we would have loved to stay longer. Nissanka was very personable, and he prepared a very delicious meal for us in his restaurant that met our budget. We regret that our schedule did not allow as much time as we would have liked in his home.
Exciting house in colonial style. It stands on a hill with beautiful lawn and surrounded by green plants which create an atmosphere of being in jungle. It is located in 5 minutes from the beach and major restaurants, where you can have a tasty meal. Just on the way from home to the beach is small cafe with the best Roti in Hikkaduwa! The owner of the house appeared very friendly and support us greatly! He provide us with airport transfer. Ordered supper for us at his restaurant, as our flight was delayed and we arrived close to midnight. Thanks to him, we tried a lot of different national dishes. Almost every day on the way to the beach, we stayed at the Abba's restaurant and negotiate with Nissanka about some unusual dishes. Since all the products and vegetables were purchased at the market specifically for us, everything was fresh and very tasty. Nissanka told us where is the best place to buy fruits and seafood, where is the supermarket and currency exchange. He explained how cheap and convenient we can get to the neighboring city (Galle, Unawatuna, etc.). One day, he took us in his car to the turtle farm, and on the way back made a small tour of Hikkaduwa. Nissanka assisted us in organizing trips to Kandy, Pinawella and tea plantations. He notified us about rental car with a driver and hotels prices for our trip to the middle of the island.
We had a great time staying at Abba's villa. It's well located, well maintained and Nissanka, the host, is super friendly and helpful. He arranged a pick up from the airport and to take us onto Mirissa at the end of our stay. He even sent someone round to help us get rid of a spider! It's a tropical country so these visitors are to be expected :-) The villa is located about a 5-10 minute walk from the town, it's up a hill so possibly not suitable for people who aren't mobile. Will stay there again if I ever visit Hikkaduwa. Oh and the beds were all very comfortable :-)
Friendly host, the villa is attractive and in a nice location- 5 minute walk to shops, restaurants and the beach. There are 3 air conditioning units in each of the 3 bedrooms..the house as a whole is NOT air conditioned and did get quite hot. As a result of this, there are holes in the ceiling and in the walls acting as air vents which led to many mosquitoes getting in leaving my 3 young children with many bites. 2 out of the 3 bedrooms have 4 poster beds with mosquito nets, the third bedroom does not. The water pump provides water for the villa (COLD water) but must not be left on otherwise there is a power cut. The showers do work but not well. Another thing to be aware of is there is no washing machine or dryer to clean clothes. We had to make do and with 3 children always at the beach and getting dirty it was a bit of a challenge for us. The kitchen offers an old cooker (only the hob works) and a small fridge with 1 shelf. There is no draining board so be careful when you wash up. Crockery and Cuttlery, pans were provided. Be mindful to empty the trash very regularly (you have to walk down the road a few hundred yards to dispose of it) as there are many insects..ants, cockroaches and we did see an enormous spider with nest taking up residence in the kitchen
Mountain Villa was a cozy, clean place close to the Hikkaduwa beach (only 5mins drive to the beach/main road). Nissanka was very helpful and responsive throughout our stay in his place. Having the attached bathrooms and A/C for all three bedrooms were very helpful. There are two roads to get to the house after leaving the main road. One could be challenging ( have to drive on a narrow and a steep hill). But the back road might make things little easier. I would definitely consider staying at mountain villa for my next visit to Hikkaduwa.
