Our lovingly restored original Queenslander is styled to reflect the past but with a fresh, bright, contemporary approach- crisp white walls, designer wallpaper, books, contemporary art, vintage and new design fill the space. Our home has been enjoyed by brides preparing for their special day, family and friends gathering and conference attendees. Moments away from restaurants and the main heartbeat of West End and Southbank.

My design philosophy is classic with a quirky twist and every piece must tell a story. Artwork and furniture are sourced anywhere from our overseas travels, local designers and galleries. High-end design pieces are mixed with ones lovingly restored after being dragged from the curbside throw outs. We adore books and high-end periodicals so these fill the library shelves. Design plays a big part in creating a warm, relaxing environment conducive to 'just hanging out'. We pride ourselves on our extremely high standard of cleanliness. Throughout the years we have hosted many wonderful people who love the space as much as we do and consider it their Brisbane home away from home. It has been featured in television commercials, hosted film crews, been a location for a cooking show and many brides have prepared for their special day. It hosts business colleagues attending nearby conventions who can easily find their own space to relax or convene at the end of the day. Each of the four bedrooms has it's own en suite bathroom. The modern, well-equipped kitchen includes a coffee machine, double-door fridge with ice maker and cold filtered water, walk-in pantry and gas cooktop. It is part of the large dining area which opens onto a plant-filled (the collection literally grows weekly) long verandah with floor to ceiling glass allowing glimpses of the city skyline. A separate living/tv room adjoins a study/library. The laundry/powder room has a washing machine, ironing facilities and toilet. We have been told by many guests that they find it difficult to leave the house and explore further afield but we provide loads of suggestions on how to enjoy the local area.
We like to tailor the needs for our guests, for example, if children are staying we will leave a box of lego, toys and children's storybooks so let us know ages so we can create playthings to suit. We can also provide a port cot, high chair, kiddies utensils and stair/safety gate for the stairwell. We can even assist with finding a babysitter.

Guest access
This space has been specifically designed for guests and you won't find any personal belongings. It is on the first floor of a two story home so you must access it via a 13 step internal staircase. The ground floor is for our private use with our daughter living there full time. The gardens are for ground floor use only.

Location

West End, Queensland, Australia

West End is one of Brisbane's hippest inner-city suburbs within walking distance to all the major art galleries, South Bank precinct, farmers' markets, the stunning river walk and the CBD. An Aldi supermarket is located at the end of the street. Some of Brisbane's best Vietnamese, Greek, Thai, Indian, Organic restaurants are also a short stroll away. New bars are popping up everywhere and are a short 10-minute walk up the road in the village centre. You can walk to QUT gardens point, catch a city glider ferry to UQ and cycle almost anywhere with city bikes available for hire at the end of the street. Some of our neighbours are fourth generation West Enders, while others migrated here in the 50s and this is what makes our area special. It is still filled with real, colourful folk but with all the advantages of city living on our doorstep. The suburb is also the original home of the indigenous Jagera clan.

I am an Australian Producer/Director married to a cinematographer. We have three children (24, 19 and 15 years). We live between our home in the mountains outside Brisbane, surrounded by rainforest and views to the ocean and our inner city, West End house. I love design, art, gardening, keeping fit, travel, music, reading, this list goes on and on. Our daughter is a fluent French speaker and understands a little Spanish so she can always help if you need translation.

During your stay
It is located on the top floor of a two-storey Queenslander-style duplex. We live very busy lives so unfortunately, we do not get to meet many of our lovely guests. You can contact us by telephone if you have any queries. The downstairs is our apartment for when we are in Brisbane. Our friendly housekeeper, Melissa will do a linen change for stays over seven days.
