This ground floor wing of an historical Round house is surrounded by fields with mature woods nearby. Inside the decor is traditional with large kitchen/dining room and even larger sitting room with open fire and french windows.

The space

This is a historic house, this semi-detached single story section is joined to an unusual round house where the owners live. The first bedroom is large and bright with two single beds which can be pushed together, it has an en suite shower room. The second bedroom is smaller with four single beds. There is a separate toilet, and a large family bathroom with bath and toilet. The sitting room and kitchen are traditional in decor and very large, the kitchen table sits 12 comfortably. There is a 3 inch step into the bedroom, toilet and bathroom area which can be accessed by a wheel-chair user with help.

Guest access

At the front door there is ample parking. The french windows from the sitting room open straight out onto parkland. There is a large pond which is not fenced off, and young children should be supervised at all times. From the house walks through the woodland and along the river are easily accessible, dogs should be kept on a lead at all times.

Interaction with guests

As the owners are both working, they are not always at home during the day, but entry at any time can be arranged. The owners are available by phone at any time, and will normally be at home in the evening and overnight.

Other things to note

This is a quiet rural area, good for walking and as a base for visitors to the Scottish Borders. There is a Pictish Broch (built in the 2nd Century AD) and an iron age fort within walking distance, and swimming in the river that flows past the house is possible in the right weather conditions.
Please note that there is little mobile phone signal available and the wifi is slow at 6 Mb.
It is a 20 - 30 minute drive to shops, pubs or restaurants, depending on which direction you go, so it is not advised that you stay here if you are looking for a good night-life, other than viewing the stars!

Victoria made us feel very welcome and sent excellent direction for finding the house. The house is situated in the most beautiful peaceful surrounds and was a perfect place to stay while exploring the area. We enjoyed walking along the river and watching birds soar over the hills. We hope to be back next year.

Victoria and her family made us all feel very welcome. The house is lovely and is in a beautiful and peaceful rural setting. The house has everything you would need for a stay- comfy beds, a huge kitchen and sitting room with an open fire, as well as lots of games and videos for children. There is also a barbeque in the garden with outside seating. We took lovely walks in the grounds to the river as well as trips to near by Coldingham beach which is amazing! There is lots to see and do in the area and we would definitely come back again for longer.

We stayed at the property for 2 nights and could not find it more charming. The house has lots of character and everything you will need. There is no shops anywhere near but even if you come unprepared the host has a very well stocked storage cupboard in the kitchen to make sure you do not go to bed hungry! Mobile network and internet are tricky but who needs them when you have a huge collection of classic VHS videos, it will make you remember that people on those days had to rewind/forward the tape! The setting is very pretty and certainly secluded, however it is a mere 5 minutes drive from the A1 and easily accessible. All and all a great stay which we will surely repeat in the future.

Lovely restful stay in beautiful traditional surroundings. Victoria was very helpful and we lacked for nothing. The free smoked trout were an expected pleasure! We would definitely stay again.

Victoria was quick to communicate and welcoming with a fire roaring in the fireplace. The house was huge with lots of room to spread out. While we enjoyed all the space, it should be noted that it is challenge to keep the place warm and a sweater would be warranted. The house was well furnished and was a great jumping off point for exploring Edinburgh and the surrounding area. A big thanks also to Alice for helping us to print out our boarding passes.
