Shanta Ghar “peace home” is a rustic natural eco resort in the remote grassland area of beautiful Madi all surrounded by Chitwan National Park. It is made of the famous Sal wood and is handmade by local carpenters in the old Nepali traditional way.

The space

Welcome to Shanta Ghar Resort, which translated from Nepali means “Peace Home”. Located in the heart of Chitwan National Park in Madi Valley, Shanta Ghar Resort is a tranquil haven away from the tourist hustle and bustle and a perfect location from which to explore the colorful and intriguing Chitwan area. Surrounded by jungle rich in wildlife, our guests are able to experience nature while enjoying authentic Nepali family life.

Shanta Ghar Resort has an inviting treehouse structure that provides beautiful 360 degree views of rice paddies, sunsets, the jungle and wildlife. Local carpenters constructed Shanta Ghar Resort by hand in the traditional Nepali way, utilizing the famous Sal wood.

Hari, owner and operator of Shanta Ghar Resort, makes it his mission to ensure that his guests are happy, comfortable and well taken care of. Guests are invited to join Hari and his family for traditional Nepali meals, and Hari is happy to accommodate a variety of requests from his guests.

Shanta Ghar Resort strives to create a relaxing environment; however the adventure of the jungle is just off our doorstep. We offer jungle treks and jungle camps and can teach you how to cook traditional Nepali food. Of course, you can also just relax and unplug from the craziness of life by enjoying our garden and watching the array of wildlife that visit our property from sunrise to sunset.

There are many options for your stay at Shanta Ghar resort. It is possible to rent a room, or even the entire facility.

The treehouse structure has one common sitting room and 6 bedrooms: two deluxe with a connected western toilet, and four double rooms with a shared toilet and warm shower. All rooms have French doors with balconies and an outdoor sitting area. In the stonehouse, we have two round rooms with private bathrooms.

Altogether Shanta Ghar Resort can accommodate anywhere from 16-24 people.

Breakfast is included in the room price, but all other meals can be ordered for reasonable prices. Shanta Ghar serves traditional home cooked Nepali vegetarian food. All of our ingredients are organic and are grown in our garden or are locally sourced. On special occasions we can provide local organic meat for you to taste. Our milk and butter is from our own buffalo.

Other Useful Tips

VISA- Depending on which country you reside in a visa will more than likely be required. You can either obtain this before you travel or alternatively a visa on arrival is also possible. The process can be slow at the airport. If you are obtaining the visa on arrival you will be required to pay for it in USD(other currencies are also accepted). There are two machines in the visa on arrival hall that will scan your passport and take your photo. You can fill in the forms here electronically. The machine then prints you a ticket to take to the desk where they can process your visa. This is the quickest way to do it.

Electric
The electric in our village is solar powered. There will always be lighting at the tree house. Charging sockets can be provided on request so you can recharge your phone, laptop etc. Alternatively we have power at the family home, I will gladly charge your items there.
If you need it wifi is also available at our home.

Mr Ramakanta goes above and beyond to make sure that his guests are well looked after and managed our stay at beautiful and unique Shanta Gar perfectly. It is a place for those who like off the beaten track and have a sense of adventure since is a little further from the main tourist traps surrounding Chitwan. Come here if you want to experience real Nepali life - Mr Ramakantan will make sure that you find the place and will even arrange a car to collect you from Bharatpur. He also kindly arranged a jeep tour and elephant ride for us (with a security elephant and rider from national park so you have only 1 guide and rider per elephant). A unique way to see the jungle and the animals that is incredibly memorable. It is also well worth a guided walk to the local waterfall which involves stunning views of the villages and fields surrounding Shanta Gar along with the main event - the river. Also well worth a trip on the local buses which will really give you an experience (whether getting stuck in the river or taking hours longer than expected it definitely gives an insight into quite how lovely Nepali people are!) Thanks so much for all your hard work in creating a wonderful stay which I will remember forever

Shanta Ghar is a nice, tucked away wilderness located in a village inside the Chitwan NP. The host was a nice and accommodating person and will do everything within his means to meet your needs. We had originally booked to stay eight nights but ended up staying only three. This is because both my wife and I were sick and down with acute sinus infections that we got from the bad pollution in Kathmandu and along the journey of polluted highways going out of the capital city. I was coughing almost nonstop every night. We would have loved to stay the eight days but the lack of heating at night only aggravated our conditions so we had to leave to sick medical attention. We love this tucked away place! If we were better and the weather warmer, we would have stayed on and accomplished more in the way of photography! Maybe next time.

We had a great stay at Ramakanta's house. With cosy decoration, wide livingspace a delicious food, it is a great place to escape and take your time to relax and enjoy traditional Nepal life. Ramakanta and Dipa are great hosts who try to provide for any need. A true recommendation!! Our advies: go to Bharatpur by plan, and let Ramakanta get a taxi for you. The taxi Will cost you 4000 rupees and takes 2 hours. Local bus takes much more time.

We had nice and exciting few days at Ramakanta's place. The family was so hospitable and nice to us. Ramakanta even pick us from Bharatpur so we didn't have any problems to get there. We went for few trips to see waterfalls and animals in the jungle. You should prepare with a lot of cash (restaurants and servises aren't near) and also ask the prices before if you want to do some trips or anything. Altogether we had a pleasant stay at Santa Ghar resort.

One of my best travel experience so far! I guess it's about the place you live in & the people you live with matters the most while choosing for a homestay. Mr Ramakanta helped us with our itinerary, and we really enjoyed the privacy of the room, the beautifully seasoned food, which derives ingredients from their own farm.

Ramakanta's place is Atrue experience of Rural Nepal. The property is extraordinary as mentioned in other reviews. The location although far out is ideal for the experience as it adds that degree of mystery. The food is simple, organic and home cooked.
