We came to Jennifer's Chalet to find peace and quiet away from the city after a particularly stressful period. We not only found that, we found a soul-nourishing, gorgeous home on a quiet mountain surrounded by the kind of unique, beautiful, natural environment, this part of California offers. The Chalet has a warm, welcoming heart at its core, not least due to Jennifer's choice of decor, which immediately helps guests shed the trappings and inhibitions of the city and just breathe. Images and small quotes displayed throughout the house are as inspirational as they are comforting. The master bedroom upstairs is glorious, with a jacuzzi-enabled tub to take out any last remnants of stress that hasn't been relieved by sitting out on the deck with good food and wine on a warm summer night with only nature's soundtrack to accompany you. Jennifer herself is a kind, attentive and communicative host who makes sure to check in that everything is all right. She even had friendly neighbor Doug come over to make sure we got in all right and had everything we needed. Finally, a word about the surroundings. Other than the gorgeous Mt. Cobb woods (sadly ravaged by a massive fire a couple of years ago), there are some local places to check out like the Loch Lomond Roadhouse that has live music on Fridays and a chance to chat with the locals. But most importantly: If you are here for wine tasting, don't just default to the usual wineries in Napa or Sonoma which are half an hour to an hour away. Instead, go explore the much closer, local wineries of Lake County, such as Laujor, Boatique and in particular, Chacewater. The latter is new-ish, but has a grand future ahead, based on the wines we got to sample. Also highly recommended is the restaurant Saw Shop in Kelseyville - which, by the way, is about as "Smalltown, USA" as it gets. The three of us who visited Jennifer's Chalet all highly recommend both the house and Jennifer as a host. If she'll have us back one day, we're definitely coming.

I love to discover the not so published destinations.. secluded lakes, small towns, hot springs and anywhere a river runs in to the ocean. There are so many places to discover in Nor Cal. Snowshoeing, Yoga, Contact Staff are other passions I enjoy.
