The house is of medieval type, located in the main square of the village with spectacular views over the Tiber Valley, every window of the house is situated towards the Valley.
CASA DI MARIA GRAZIA
This very comfortable and charming medieval townhouse is basically spread over 3 levels of living space. It is accessed directly from the main Piazza Vittorio Emanuele into a private downstairs hallway from which the ancient cotto stairway takes you to the main living area. There is a large comfortable lounge room and formal dinning with stunning views over Todi, the Tiber valley and the Apennine Mountains beyond. On this floor there is also a large farmhouse style kitchen with family dining. Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms (one ensuite). Again, magnificent views can be enjoyed from 2 of these spacious rooms. A further facility is also available to larger groups in the top most part of the house -- a very large attic room that can sleep 2 which also has a bathroom.
The layout of the house lends its self to be perfect for everyone -- just one couple, 2/3 couples travelling together, families or indeed a group. The main Piazza which is just outside Casa di Maria Grazia is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or soak up some sun while enjoying the view.
For two guests sharing the price is 60 Euros per night and only 25 Euros per night for each additional guest. There is a 4 night minimum and discounts may be available for bookings longer than a week.
Montecastello di Vibio, built in the 11th century, is one of the many magical medieval hilltop towns so typical of Umbria -- the green heart of Italy. However due to its wonderful position near Todi and only an hour and a half from Rome it is just the most perfect place to be to see all that this unique region has to offer. The town it's self, built within the ancient perimeter walls, is easy to stroll around and a very safe environment for children as cars are only permitted for access to deliver cases, shopping etc and then returned to the plentiful free car parking out-with the walls. Shopping is a delight -- there is a Bakery, Chemist, Delicatessen, Butchers, Post Office, 2 Churches, Bank with ATM, Bar (in the main Piazza) Restaurants and Small Convenience store that seems to sell everything!!
During the Summer months the Torraccia Bar also opens -- just below the Hotel outside the walls. Wonderful Pizzas!! -- and live music is often played by local musicians and you can dance the night away under the stars -- so very Italian!!
Last but not least, every June/July is the Montecastello Festa - a time for dancing and tasting all the delicious local dishes made by the town's women folk.
There is an International Art School and often you will see students set up their easels in one of the piazzas and start to create their master pieces.
However, probably the thing Montecastello is really world famous for is the most beautiful theatre -- 'Teatro della Concordia built in Napoleonic times which claims to be the smallest in the world! In fact Gina Lollobrigida started her career in this little gem. An absolute must to visit!
During July and August it is possible to make use of the Hotel's fabulous palm fringed swimming pool. They sell sell 10 visits for 40 Euros.
If you fancy your hand at delicate, detailed ceramic painting it is possible to take a course while staying in the town (a wonderful souvenir to take back home). You can also visit the local town of Deruta which is the Italian centre for this art form. There you can see the many, many galleries displaying and selling their unique hand painted ceramic ware.
Another wonderful opportunity for you is to do a cooking class in the town and learn how to cook delicious dishes from Umbria and beyond.
The accommodation is entirely at your disposal, there are no space limitations.
