Description

The space

Haven Mountain Bike Park is a 65 acre block of land just 30 minutes south of Christchurch nestled in beautiful Banks Peninsula.

It was purchased in May 2006 by Shailer with the purpose to build mountain bike tracks and plant trees as a way to give back to the sport and to get out of the big smoke.

The McQueens Valley Mountain Bike Club Incorporated was formed in June 2006 with the intent to build a world class mountain bike park in a restored native forest on this land. We achieved charitable status in July 2009.

This long-term vision will culminate in the land being available for the people of Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand and Beyond to access intermediate level trails amongst native trees and plants on a historical piece of Banks Peninsula rock.

Currently the club has almost 100 dedicated members from a diverse range of backgrounds but we are united by the desire to build great mountain bike trails and to give something back to the land and the cycling community.

Most of the land was cleared in 2000 for farming purposes but was never utilised and as a consequence scrub, in the form of broom, wilding pines and small patches of gorse, have taken over amongst the native trees and bushes that are regenerating.

Guest access

All access, except the office and our bedroom! :)

Interaction with guests

We will give you space if you need it, engage in witty repartee if you desire or show you round the park

The neighbourhood

We are in a private rural setting.

Getting around

No public transport. Plenty of parking. It is a short and steep dirt drive, but I can pick you up, it's a two minute shuttle.

Other things to note

We have two cats - they run the place - one very friendly dog (who lives outside) my partner Candice and house-mate Russell.

Had a few car issues on the way, but luckily our host was coming around late as well. He was also extremely patient and understanding, we were able to check in around 10pm and were welcomed warmly :) Chino, a brown chocolate lab made it all the merrier! Had a nice hot shower and was off to bed for us. We were only spending a night unfortunately, but would've loved to check out their wicked looking mountain bike track! The view from the morning patio was refreshing, where we enjoyed our complimentary breakfast. It's definitely worth spending a few nights here and if your an avid mountain biker or you've got a taste for adventure, then this is the place for you! Highly recommended :)

We had a very relaxing & peaceful stay. There's a big library of movies and series to watch which we enjoyed. It's a great place if you're a cyclist as there's surrounding trails and lots of bike mags to read in the house! Shailer & his partner were very kind to us & we felt very relaxed in their home to cook our food (also LOVED the baking thy did for us!). There are lovely cats a beautiful lab. We thought check in and check out times (6pm & 9am) weren't very accommodating ... our experience of Airbnb check in times are 10-11am checkout & after 3pm check in usually. Only half of the bedroom floor is carpeted. Covering the entire bedroom floor with carpet would give the room a more cosy & welcoming feel to it :)

Ok place if you want just to bike in the forest. Nothing else to do. Yes, it is MTB b&b as the name indicates.

I enjoy the company of others but I am hardly a raconteur
I have travelled most of the world and enjoy it immensely, but there is no place like home - let me show it off to you.
I own the land on Haven MTB Park (you will have to G o o g l e it) and we are having fun building trails, planting trees and taking in the flora and fauna.
But I love all the comforts of home, enjoy movies, music and books and have plenty to share.
