This iconic 1852 colonial home is pristinely situated on 5 rolling acres in pastoral Gallatin, NY. Convenient to Rhinebeck and Hudson, it was featured in the New York Times in 2013. It is available for rent in 2016 for the very first time.
Built in the 1850’s, this 1000 SF cottage is set between County Route 7, Sycamore Creek, and the Roeliff Jansen Kill in the rolling hills of Gallatin, NY. The home consists of a bright, open living room on the ground floor, as well as an open kitchen and dining room. On the upper floor, there are 2 cozy bedrooms, and additional bedroom / office equipped with a daybed, and a full bath. Originally built as workmen’s lodging at an adjacent homestead, the house was restored in 2012. Notable features are wide plank, light pine floors, period windows, and a deck overlooking the woods and river below.
As a guest you will have access to all 5 acres, including stream, river, and walking path access through acres of adjacent farm and woodlands, and down the surrounding one-lane country roads.
Interaction with guests
We provide extensive instructions for both the house, and the surrounding amenities, prior to access to the home. We are not full-time residents of the property, so as such, you will not have access to us upon your arrival.
Other things to note
From the property, one can walk along one-lane country roads, and hike / swim along the Roeliff Jansen Kill. The cottage is an ideal retreat from city life, yet is close to many charming Hudson Valley towns. It is situated 15 minutes from Millerton, 20 minutes from Hudson, 20 minutes from Rhinebeck, 30 minutes from the Catskills, 30 minutes from the Berkshires, 40 minutes from Great Barrington, and 55 minutes from Tanglewood.
Please be considerate that this is an 'antique' home, and requires a delicate touch. Doors and windows should be treated carefully, as most are historic and original to the home. You are welcome to spend time out on the land and enjoy the firepit, deck, and surrouding country roads, so long as you treat all with respect.
